I don't normally knock the local paper, but I'm wondering what the over-and-under is as to when Bill Koch's blog or article appears on the Enquirer's web site. UC has posted this info, but it's 4PM and, so far, crickets from the Enquirer.

OK. Good. UC must've posted late.

why does Bill Koch have to wait until the school makes an official announcement? Koch is supposedly the beat writer...not the school spokesman

While Bill Koch is simultaneously typing up Cronin's comments, he is also there trying to ask questions and be engaged in the press conference. He can always go back and listen to his recorder.

Athletic departments, meanwhile, often have multiple staff members there (not asking questions) who solely are responsible for typing up the transcripts and such and get the information out quicker.

Also, they have every right to publish things first and also often request that people hold off until it is official. I gurantee you that the UC media had the schedules out but did not mention them until the athletic department released it and gave them a go. That's just how it works.

You're missing the point...we have known who committed since yesterday...multiple outlets had stories out yesterday....if Koch only reports things after the university officially announces them why even have a beat writer?

UC was waiting to announce once they got Ellis' LOI. They did it all at once so Koch was not going to be able to REPORT anything until he had quotes from Mick. The press conference was today.

Is Koch not allowed to contact recruits etc. ala the guys at BCL and other recruiting sites? He's not affiliated with the school in any way aside from being deemed the beat reporter.

If I were the Enquirer, I'd jump all over hiring one of the recruiting "gurus" from those sites.

If you haven't noticed yet, newspapers are largely irrelevant dinosaurs, with few reporters or resources, and often just parrot what's already online - it's an old form of media that is dying its well-deserved death.

They actually partnered up with BearcatLair for football recruiting I think.

They could get one of the prep reporters to cover stuff tho. The Indy Star does a lot with recruiting (granted Indianapolis is bigger and has lot more local talent in hoops). But they have a ton of guys covering recruiting.

While the paper media format might be outdated, the electronic version still has a lot of relevancy in my opinion. I can't see any "pay for info" business model working long-term (at least at a local level), but I don't think we're going to see the Enquirer drop off the face of the earth any time soon.

Too bad they don't champion a certain niche and make it their own; they seem to be spread too thin trying to make everyone happy, especially with their sports coverage.

He's the gold standard. I wish the Enquirer had somebody 25% as good as him. (Oh - and he works for a dinosaur)
