We should crush them.

I believe this is the game where the Basketball Bearcats put it all together and win by 15 or better as the Bearcats have five guys in double figures. Go Cats.

If you want a fluid offense then they shouldn't be working on sets. Sets are used when you want to expose a certain player, control tempo, or for mostly situational opportunities. Fluid offense comes from motion and according to all reports that is what they have been working on this off season. Most of the time it takes guys a little while to come together and have a motion offense flow. I would love to see them work on more 4 out 1 in with Yancy.

If UC improves shot selection there's no reason they can't do well. If they insist of having the wrong guys heave up crap all day (like last season) then who knows what the result is.

UC is one of the worst 3 pt shooting teams in the universe. But, their shooting percentage from 2 point range is actually pretty good. If they ever get their heads out of their rear ends and figure that out, they could be half way decent.

Shooting 2's at 51% = shooting 3's at 34% as far as total points is concerned

Cats are now at 51.4% shooting only 2's, 25% from 3

Problem is, as we've seen in two 2nd halves, if you deny the high percentage 2's there isn't an alternative other than Kilpatrick

Someone soon is going to pack it in the whole game...if so, I want Kilpatrick taking the shots....so far, he's at 45.5% from 3.....why would you let anyone else shoot it? (I know, he's not always going to be open...so then don't shoot the 3...drive)

Oh, if only they were shooting 34% from 3. Their percentage last year was in the 20s, as it is this year.

I don't have an issue with Kilpatrick taking 3 pointers. He seems to be an actual shooter, and is hitting a reasonable percentage. Even when he misses, he has a shooters touch and the ball doesn't kick out for a long rebound and fast break the other way.

My issue is with guys like Dixon and Davis jacking tons of 3s. While Dixon has had some decent scoring efforts this year, it's almost all been close in (layups, dunks, etc). When they heave up brick after brick it turns into a fast break the other way.

Slow second halves with be the norm if that doesn't change.

If we have a team, coach, program that needs to rely on the fans to get them going, and not the other way around, then this team is one of the poorest excuses for a "major program" that has ever existed.

If you truly believe that the reason for the poor play is b/c of lack of crowd participation, then sorry, you need your head examined. Here's a thought, if the team wants more cheering, then play well. If they want more attendance, then go on a sustained winning streak. If they want a positive and vocal fan base, make a tourney. If they want to be on ESPN a whole bunch, become a upper echelon team.

That's the way life works. That's why they get somewhere around a $100k scholarship, b/c they need to produce, b/c there is lots of money involved. If it were all rah-rah, bumble gum and rainbows, then the men's tennis team would be given full rides and be playing in front 10k every match. But they're not are they?

Your ideas, and batching about crowd support and attendance, are so far from reality it's laughable. (This coming from a season ticket holder) You want crowds, you want noise, you want support? Win. Period. It aint that hard to figure out. To blame the fans for the poor play is one of the most embarrassing things I've ever seen written on these boards.

First half isn't too bad. But after sitting through halftime its hard to get fired up to even cheer when over 10,000 of your fellow fans are dressed up like empty red seats. More energy at a retirement community bingo night.

Who was cheering for IPFW when they outscored us 27-20, on our floor, in the 2nd half?

Who was cheering for Mt. St. Mary's when they outscored us 38-29 in the 2nd half?

Do they recruit a superior type of athlete at these lowly D1 schools that are capable of playing the 2nd half with, or without, applause from the crowd?

If we can't play a 2nd half in our OWN GYM b/c of lack of energy how the **** are we going to play on the road, with boos and a hostile crowd? Good God, we may not score an 2nd half point on the road all year...

Nah, just irks me when I see a fanbase continually blamed, by a poster, for the lack of success. In this particular case, I myself, as being in attendance, being blamed b/c I'm not cheering enough while we're letting Little Sisters of the Poor erase a lead.

If they play good, I cheer. Although, I guess maybe if I cheer, they play better. Chicken or the egg?

I think what Cafe and many others are trying to get at is that we have zero to little home court advantage. And don't say that home court advantage doesn't mean anything because in college basketball it is HUGE! There is a reason some places are harder to play than others even if the visiting team is much better and should win and vice versa. One example (UD arena), growing up in Dayton, their fans pack the arena no matter what the record or who the opponent is. Now I know they don't have other things to distract them in Dayton like the NFL or what have you, but their populations is much less and they still have two colleges in the city. I'm not calling any member out or anything, I'm just saying I am disappointed in the UC alums and fans who don't have enough pride to support their university through good times and bad! That is what separates Cincinnati sports fans.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. The Bengals haven't won a playoff game in over 20 years and yet yesterday was the first time they haven't sold out in over 7 years.

The football team had 30k for the game against Rutgers and they were in dead last in the BE, playing another bottom dweller in a meaningless game.

It's not as if attendance went to where it after one losing season, it's been getting progressively worse for years. Frankly, the product is sub par. And, NO it's not fair to compare this school to state schools and schools in cities with no real competition, whether it be from pro teams or other schools.

If the fans were fariweather, there would have been 4k at the football game too. Same school, same location, same day, same weather, etc. How did they draw 30k if this city is like that? How does Mike Brown continue to make money after 20 years of putting out garbage?

What happened to the UC fanbase has more reasons for it than simply a single season of losing, or being fairweather It didn't happen overnight. I would say it's a combination of" We've had 5 years of lackluster results. We fired the face of the program, only to have no plan in place, and to treat his temporary replacement like dirt. Our current style of play is boring. Our coach is not media or fan friendly. This team doesn't appear to be breaking into the top 1/4 of the conference any time soon. The economy stinks. We beat IPFW by 6 points....

Please don't act as if this city's fans don't have a reputation for being fairweather. Even if you choose not to admit it, its there. As for your example about the football game drawing 30k, maybe in ticket sales, but I can guarantee there were not 30k at the stadium on saturday. I still think thats an awesome number for the year we have had this year however and this late in the season. How do you not deem it fair to compare us to other cities? What are we supposed to compare us to? Plain and simple, some cities are known as a sports towns while others are not. I wonder how they compare that data and come up with that conclusion?

Myself, and my family all chip in. I don't say I have season tickets b/c I don't, I have A season ticket. And I didn't start paying into the pool for them until my late 20's, so saying the family seats is a force of habit.

To answer your question, I went to the first game but did not go on Sat. And I fully expected the attendance to be like this, when MT announced Mick would be back, which is fine, but it will take some time and winning. They made the choice to stick with him, so I think everyone needs to understand that the attendance was bound to go down again. And it will continue to until the product improves. If they beat Dayton on Sat, if they do well in the OOC, if they play tough in the league, it will go up. It's pretty simple.

How do you not deem it fair to compare us to other cities?

I said other cities without pro teams (Louisville) or State schools (Indiana). It's not a fair comparison. A state school's campus alone is like a small city. Just the people employed at IU could fill their arena. And if a school has no other competition for sports entertainment then I'm sure they don't have to fight as hard to keep attendance up.

If you wanna compare UC basketaball, football, I'd say Memphis, Pitt would be good examples. Do you think Memphis or Pittsburgh would be coming close to selling out if they had 5 years without a tourney appearance? I certainly don't.

I don't disagree that if they win fans will come back.

My point, the one I originally made that got you bothered, was that I fully expect more flat performances in the second half in the OOC schedule in front of a very, very flat home venue. You don't have to like it. But its going to happen.

Why does the lack of attendance not affect us in the 1st half though? How do we expect to play on the road, if it's as simple as saying that the lack of cheering let's us get outscored by IPFW?

I don't think anyone would argue that home court advantage can be huge. However, I think many would find it comical to excuse the play against the St. Mary's of the world to only having a shatty fan base.

The home court advantage comes from practicing on the court everyday, being familiar with the shooting background and the nuances of the court, the hardness or the softness of the rims, how the ball bounces of them etc. How loud the crowd yells does not have much to do with it.

No.

This is completely wrong.

A vocal and animated crowd has the ability to inject energy into the home team, create chaos for the visiting team through degree of sound, heckling, shouts, yells, etc., and create what most call a HOME COURT ADVANTAGE.

Certain players may have the ability to completely concentrate on the game and block any crowd distractions, but a crowd can influence the game.

Fair weather fans can help...but only when times are good. When times are bad many of them are like a virus you can't get rid of...and they spread it to others.

It's early...go to the games and help the team out. Not having you there isn't an excuse for the team or coach...but having you there is a bonus. It's like a guy who normally scores 4 points shows up and scores 16. It's a nice surprise! Believe it or not...fans can affect the game. Do your part...IF YOU CAN. I realize many people have other things going on in their life...but if you are deciding between watching on TV or internet and going to the game...go to the game. I would say your use of the word anyone is a bit liberal here. I guess you've never seen players using their hands and arms to get the crowd involved during a game. Some players feed off of crowd noise...some players tune it out. To suggest that anyone who has played the game can tune out crowd noise is a little bit naive to put it nicely.

If anyone thinks 13,000 screaming fans is as good as 3,000 sitting on their arse...I would say you don't have a very good grasp on reality. Whether it should be that way or not...it is what it is...players feed off the energy and emotion of the crowd. Very few players like Justin Jackson have their own internal motor that's working at full tilt all the time. Some people are hyper active and some are laid back...people are different.

I also can't blame fans for not selling out the arena...again it is what it is...the players need to find another gear NOW until they can feed off the crowd when things get better.

you clearly didnt see kilpatricks postgame comments after the IPFW game.

20 minutes until game time and the band members out number the fans in the stands.

They don't need their A game today. I'm just hoping for 40 minutes of at least their B game.

The Bearcat offense is merely sputtering along tonight, UC leads 28-18.

The offense is not in sync vs the FAMU zone.

Larry davis is not a D1 basketball player...I dont know if he's a D2 basketball player. I don't care if this is only the third game of the season, he shouldnt be on the court for 2 minutes a game.

Bearcats 39% shooting in first half 12-31. Zones bother the Bearcats, if I coached the opposing team zone is all I would play.

From my view in the upper section, I'd say 701...

My guesstimate from the arena is about 2,000 tops.

So far they have made a good % of threes and have turned the ball over a lot less. I can't see the game but that's good news to me. Let's see if they can keep it up the 2nd half.

Cash is 4-0 on assist to TO ratio. We have 10-4 assist to TO ratio as a team. Rebounds are 24-16. Other than FT shooting I can't complain too much.

Savannah State 49 Dayton 48, 9 minutes to go. Looks like the Bearcats will be in a titanic struggle Wednesday.

We're on a fast break, cash has the ball 2 on 1 and he stops at the 3 point line...why?!!!? This drives me crazy. Why can't we run a fast break...

Can't argue that...it was a solid win, but there's still an aweful lot to work on.

Thomas went 4-7 and 3-4 from the line. He was 2-3 in the first half and 2-4 in the 2nd half. Don't know how you figured he was throwing up nothing but air balls and bricks. Do I want to see him shooting the 3? No, but he is far from a problem as long as he makes his FTs. I tend to agree Larry Davis should be a towel waiver on the bench. I don't know what value he brings to the team. The rotation should be 8-10 guys and Davis is #11.
