Really upset with two losses.. i know the team is young! but with more intensity.. this team could be 3-0! alot of young mistakes prevented uc from pulling away any of the games.. they were unable to get any offensive streaks going.. but the defensive pressure and intensity should of been almost 2x better then it was! if they would of out hustled their opponents rather then get out hustled.. the field goal percentage wouldnt of been high enough for any of the teams to beat us! talent kept us in the games.. effort should of won them! thats the thing that bothered me.. coaching was shacky.. actually was poor.. but mick made some evident improvement by game three.. by jan i think the mistakes and the coaching will be improved to where we can compete in the big east and the intensity must improve by as soon as the uab game.. its going to be tough this year.. not expecting to see us play beyond madison square garden.. but i expect a big enough improvement to where the team is exciting enough to watch all year long.. and compete in almost every game.. memphis gtown and a few others potentially could be ugly.. but it will be fun to watch.. by the end of the year i think everyone involved with the program will be happy about where this team is headed.. i truely believe next year we will have more talented experience if that makes sense and should compete even more but besides vaughn the team will yet again be inexperienced.. vaughn's senior year should be an ncaa team.. not just a team that barely got in but a team that can compete to make a run. cant wait to see this school in the big dance coming off a competative schedule for once... that year will determine whether or not mick will return us to the dance year in and year out where every single loss is one where we are either disappointed or felt we had a shot.. those years were so fun! going to suck to have to wait... maybe we wont maybe we turn it around but i just dont know! stick with the team.. support them and know that we will be back soon enough!

There is no reason to be upset with the losses, this is a green team that will not win a lot of games this season. What to look for is not whether they are winning games but are they improving. The record this season in rebuilding year # 2 does not matter. They will not be playing in the Big East tourney, NCAA tourney, or NIT.

winning games does matter.. i feel fo the seniors thay didnt come here to revuild.. thats the situation they r in but they dont want improvement they want wins.. not saying win 20 games.. get these seniors to madison square garden so they know what it truely like to compete in the big east.. they put alot of work in for two years and i can assure u it was not soley to improve.. i understand they are rebuilding and i understand we cant win alot of games.. but this team is talented enough to win some games as they improve. one thing about this year that last year didnt bring will be alot of athletic ability and excitement.. its about rebuilding and imroving i agree but winning matters.. this team doesnt win then i wont be happy with their improvement b/c they need to improve in defense and improved defense will result in wins b/c they are not that far off

I think Year 3 would be critical if Year 2 doesn't go well the rest of the way.

None of the coaches you mentioned have had to face the same situation as Mick did. If this year ends up being terrible and there is no improvement next year, that's certainly a cause for concern. But as I've said all along, given the mess made by those who shall not be named, it would take all but the most remarkable of re-builders a minimum of three years to build the cats back up to a consistent top-25 program.

Even year three is going to be very difficult. That year they will have one Junior, a bunch of Sophomores and a few Freshman. That is still a very young team. Mick is building upon four year guys, which means it might take a little longer to get to the top.

No kidding. That will be one of the youngest teams in all of the major conferences. As of right now, we project to have a senior coming off injury and a 2 year lay off, a junior, 6 sophmores, and currently 2 but as many as 5 frosh.
I say you play the frosh this year to get them as much experience as possible. We are going to need it big time next year.

This season is actually rebuilding year # 1, you have to throw last season away. Hired in late March of 2006, Mick had to find guys to field any team he could for last year, you cannot consider last season to be part of the rebuilding process.

Had he been hired in August 2005...

I think Mike will be consider a Senior next year. He will have to apply for the 6th year.

He wasn't. Until you invent a time machine it is always going to be that way.

True, forgot about him. Hopefully (doubtful) he'll get his 6th year.

The coaching change COULD have been made in 2004 or 2005 with exact same candidate. And the recruiting for 2005 and 2006 doesn't skip a beat. It was a choice to wait until 2006. Choices have consequences.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda, didn't. Life goes on. Constantly crying about it doesn't do any good.
Choices have consequences.1
And those choices were made by a certain coach, which put UC in this situation.

Not crying. Stating fact. The choice to wait until 2006 cost UC recruiting seasons of 2005 and 2006.
No coach made the choice. It was made by UC AD and others (BOT, etc).
