If you could choose only one to be highly successful, what would it be? Football or basketball?

This is a no brainer, FOOTBALL. 1)big time money, get in a BCS game and you get $14 million, win the NCAA tourney and you get $2 million 2) fill Nippert and you make $1 million a game, fill PBS and you make $2 million a game 3) college football in the big scheme of things is watched by many, many more people than college basketball. It is legitimate to say that college basketball is a poor step child to college football.

...fill Nippert and you make $1 million a game, fill PBS and you make $2 million a game...

This discussion has been had. Filling PBS would give UC Athletics only a negligible increase in profits.

I'd personally pick basketball, but a successful football program does a ton more for the school.

I picked football, but actually I'd take being very successful in either. For some reason though, I think a sold out college football stadium is one of the greatest things to witness.

Only b/c I'm more of a basketball fan would I pick that team. As said above, I'd be totally content with either though. (March Madness is my favorite time of the year)

One could also argue that with the past success and 'tradition' of the b-ball team combined with a current powerhouse could really create a program that stands next to the Dukes, N. Carolinas, and dare I say Kentuckys of the world.

But, as said above f-ball seems to be the biggest money maker and biggest draw nationally...and I'd certainly be at every game there too.

success in football would be more profitable for the school, but this school is a basketball school. It is on a down swing but it will be back. The football team must keep it going for over a year. i maybe taking the question th wrong way though

Both No reason we can't do both

We would have both if some unnamed university president would have left the basketball program alone...

Both is not an option. You can choose one or the other. It is rare in D-1 BCS athletics to have top flight basketball and football at one school at the same time. I don't really know why this is. The schedules don't generally overlap. The teams don't share the same athletes. Regardless, the success that Florida has enjoyed over the past two seasons is definitely the exception and not the rule.

Then I choose Football. Out of spite for Z, part of me doesn't mind watching the basketball program suffer...

I don't deny the logic of football makes more money. I'm simply a hoops fan first and foremost. I'm not lying awake at night hoping UC can turn more profit. I'm lying awake at night hoping UC can find a PG, hit a free throw, and play some defense for a change.

If football would ever come up with a better system for the playoffs...and I have no clue what it would be...I would consider football. But what is better...a March Madness run or the run-up to the Outback Bowl?

Give me my March Madness with the Bearcats being a legit contender. Money aside of course.

There are few sporting events that can equal the drama of the NCAA tournament. However, this is probably the only time I spend significant time watching a basketball game that does not involve UC. The same is not true for football. In this respect, I am a much bigger fan of the game of football than I am of basketball. And this is at all levels (HS, college and pro). That is why I voted for football.

Well, this is very hard one, but I picked UC football because I am enjoying the new football program more than UC basketball program right now. Almost every year I always have enjoyed the UC basketball program more than UC football. When both of their basketball and football program rise into elite, it would be impossible for me to pick one. I am almost sure Florida fans would feel the same thing as I have.
