I'm reminded of an early Badger era quote. He had called TO and players huddled up at the bench.

None of the coaches you mentioned have had to face the same situation as Mick did. If this year ends up being terrible and there is no improvement next year, that's certainly a cause for concern. But as I've said all along, given the mess made by those who shall not be named, it would take all but the most remarkable of re-builders a minimum of three years to build the cats back up to a consistent top-25 program.

Yates did. The UC roster was barren in 1983. There are other similarities. Yates was a superb recruiter (by reputation at Illinois) but unproven coach.

So did Badger. Catlett left UC on NCAA probation and in a huge mess.
