For me personally, this is the best set of quotes I've heard Cronin give in his entire time here. And, I have mentioned before that perhaps Koch hurts Mick more than he helps him with some of his columns. Maybe this time he just went the opposite direction. Or maybe Mick just gave a pretty solid interview. Regardless, I really do think statements like these can go a long way, just as I've complained about others not helping, going the other way. (Yes, that was me that has questioned his and the schools PR skills)

Mick comes across as pretty darn likable here. It doesn't comes across as needy or anything like that. Pretty much just says the truth. I especially liked the line where he says "whoever the coach may be" To me it read, that he almost is just speaking from a any Bearcats perspective, be it fan or student, or alum, or local, rather than simply as the head coach.

I know many on here peg me as on a certain side, or part of whatever teams people perceive on here, but I owe to the man to give credit for a good interview as as quickly as I have questioned a poor one.

And Mick is dead right here, and it is nice to hear about the recruits, and very nice to compliment the students. We may never agree on what it took to get them in the building, but I've still always gone down there. And like I've always maintained, winning will cure all, and an exciting, hard working group will put people's butts back in the seats. I know people wholeheartedly disagree with people that didn't come around. And perhaps the recent surge should have never been necessary. (Respectfully, agree to disagree)

Let's hope the winning continues. Almost everyone is having a blast, and I see could 5/3 being a much different atmosphere if things continue the way they have. And I know for a fact, that there are quite a few people that never had a side in the fight, that have gone from being slightly apathetic, or completely apathetic to now asking me what I think about our Bearcats again. It's been awhile. That's a really GOOD thing.

Kudos to Mick and his kids. Go Cats!

These were some great comments by Mick. I've never really had a problem with any of his comments though. I really like what he said in regard to the recruits that went to the Georgetown game!!

Maybe he's turning the corner. The local media has been squarely in the hands of X in Cincinnati for a few years. And the national media forgot we had a basketball program a few years ago.

The press conference tonight was interesting because while he still had the fire about disrespect, it was more muted and not as jabbing. Unless you're an X fan, since he repeatedly said a team we beat by more than twenty, with more losses than us, is ranked well ahead of us. But that was squarely for us at home to enjoy.

Did you notice that Yancy and Dion got a little fired up at the question as well? The players feel it just as much as Mick does.

And he was speaking about XU and Georgetown. Both have more losses than UC. UC beat both by 20+....but the great thing about college hoops is that everything is determined on the floor and not in the polls.

Does anyone have info on who were the recruits in attendance at the GU game?

At least Hammons and Osborne (sp?). Was Macon there too? That would be great!

I'm not sure, I was just being wishful.

I couldn't agree more...Mick nailed it in this interview and he's absolutely right...the best thing we can do as fans is provide an exciting atmosphere that recruits want to be a part of. The team has proved it belongs in the Big East, now the fans should prove we belong there too.

"We had a couple of big-time recruits at the Georgetown game and we are now their No. 1 school,"

Come to us Hammons and Macon. ALL OF YOU!

Winning and good basketball cures all. I have been a season ticket holder for Mick's tenure. I was excited when Mick was hired. The dumb, bad basketball turned me off. Watching passes bounce off people's hands. Watching 6-10 people throw layups over the rim. Watching teams stay the same or get worse over the season. That turned me off. They are playing good ball now. I am excited again. I hope it continues.

Nice post MDW. However, any coach sounds a lot better when his team is 25-7 instead of 19-15.

Not trying to stir anything up here but, had Mick said this last year, my bet is that some people would be firing darts at him over it.

Absolutely right. One thing that you can say about Cronin is that he is consistent and never holds back. He speaks the truth. When they are winning, everthing is good. If they had lost a couple of games, these same comments would be parsed and some would be calling him a complainer, or telling him to shut up and win, etc.

It's amazing what wins will do for your perspective isn't it?
