What do you think about adding teams to the NCAA tournament?

My thinking on this is this. Eliminate the NIT and add those 32 teams to the NCAA tournament. The bottom 64 teams will play in an opening round. This adds at most one week to the tournament. It also eliminates what I think is a less meaningful play-in game which I think is unfair to its participants because the loser of that game does not get to experience the true atmosphere of the 1st round games.

Keith I like your thoughs but I will admit I have enjoyed watching the NIT games in this new format. The UC games last year were fun and they gave the home town fans some good games without the travel.

Keith, I don't like the play in game either and I wonder what they will do if another conference splits like the WAC and MW did.
In my opinion if you have not proven to be one of the top 24 teams in the country then you do not deserve to be in the tournament. I like the conference tournaments and I look at those as if they are the other rounds. If you want to get into the tournament then play someone and beat them. I think that is all depends on what your theory of the tournament is. If it is to find a national champion then do we really need more than 64 teams in the tournament? |

I can't take credit for this idea entirely, but it was mentioned by a commentator while watching NIT games.
Instead of having the play-in game be the 2 worst teams (16 seeds), who typically have earned their trips by winning their conference tournaments. Have the play-in day a 4 game lineup (just like round 1). However, instead of playing for the 16 seeds, they are playing for the 12 or 13 (you pick) seeds. So there are 4 games, 8 teams, and 4 slots left in the tournament. You select the last 8 at large teams (for example, this year: West Virginia, Clemson, Miss St, Air Force, Syracuse, Florida State, OK State, Kansas State) and they play for the last 4 spots in the tournament. This will help alleviate the "complaints" for the last teams in (although, regardless, there will always be complaints). The event would be a great way to start the tournament and the games would be a lot more interesting. The current setup seems to punish the little guy even though they made the valiant effort in the conference tournament. The NIT's new setup is great, and I think it should remain in place because it allows younger teams (i.e. South Carolina) the chance to experience post-season play and ultimately improves college basketball as a whole each year. |

It really is just a matter of time before they begin to add teams. Even though the teams that are added in (Bubble teams) won't contend for the championship, they can ruin some decent teams run, which creates more drama when will create even more viewership.
