Default Toledo opens new football facility; similiar to UC's future?

Hey Fellas,

The University of Toledo just opened up a new multi-sport training facility. The new football facility seems to be what we just started to build.

Only the first 6-8 pics are the football facility. The rest are for the other sports.

It's kind of embarrassing to be behind UT on this, in my opinion.

Based on some of the other pictures on their website, this appears to be a permanent facility with solid construction and not just a bubble. It also says the cost to build this was $9 million. Our facility will be a bubble and is going to cost 50% more.

I wonder if our cost is more because there is some earth moving involved. They're going to have to fill in some land to build the Jefferson facilities. Just a thought.

I've never been to Toledo before, but keep in mind that UC is completely landlocked. If we were a land grant/ state school, I would imagine we would have all of these facilities too. Everything UC does from an infrastructure standpoint has to be done with careful consideration due to the limited options and on top of that, the costs are higher due to the spacial issues.

I went to Toledo for law school -- it's landlocked much the same way UC is, though they do have some undeveloped space around campus that they were using for various sports practices.

The Glass Bowl is a pretty neat stadium. They do a good job filling it up and it's a great place to watch a game. One of my favorite sports memories of all time was watching Toledo beat Pitt back in 2003 when Pitt had Fitzgerald. Bruce Gradkowski was on that Toledo team and had one of the most dominant games I've ever seen a quarterback have. He willed the team to win in the 4th quarter. It was an amazing sight.

You also have to take into consideration that the Toledo facility has one 100-yard field, no stands, no locker rooms, and no score board. The Jefferson facility will have one 100-yard field, one 50-yard field, full grandstand, home and visiting locker rooms, full score board, concession stands, and a brick and rot iron wall, walkway, and entrance surrounding the entire facility.

The Toledo facility is amazing and ours will be as well, but they will be used for different purposes so it's not that simple to compare costs.

Toledo has the best facilities in the MAC by far. It's only a matter of time before they pull away and dominate the conference.

Plus, the city of Toledo won't win any awards or inspire any novels, but there is a city population of over 300,000 -- a gigantic local base for ticket sales and secondary revenue streams (advertising, radio broadcast rights, etc.) by MAC standards.

The photos of Toledo's facility are nice but not that impressive. UC's facility will be much better when completed - no question.

Toledo doesn't have grandstands or lockerroom / classroom facilities like UC will have - huge difference. Plus UC will have a 100 yard field plus 50 yard field - again huge difference.

Keep in mind Toledo's weather is typically colder than in Cincinnati so we dont technically need a permanent roof structure.

The Jefferson Ave. facility will be far better.

Just remember, the bubble only covers the 100 yd. field.

Local radio has been playing a parody of Jay-Z's Empire State of Mind called Glass City State of Mind.

Its absolutely hilarious.

Did you see their recruiting class? As far as rankings go on Rivals they picked up almost as many 3 and 4 star guys as UC!

Toledo is definately making strides to be the class of the MAC year in and year out.

Toledo's facility looks pretty basic. A big cost for Jefferson Ave is the earth moving. There is a lot of bedrock that will have to be removed.
