Default '13 KY Darryl Hicks

From Jody Demling, Courier-Journal:

Darryl Hicks, who starred as a freshman at Shelby County High School last season, has added a new offer to his recruiting list.

The 6-foot-4 Hicks, whose first offer came from Indiana University, said he picked up a scholarship offer from Arizona and coach Sean Miller last week.

"It's nice knowing I have two offers," said Hicks, who is playing this weekend with The Ville in the adidas May Classic. "Everybody always ask how it feels, I try and just play basketball and not pay too much attention to it right now."

Hicks, who helped Shelby County to the Sweet 16 this past season, said he’s working on "a lot of things" to try and get better but noted he does have a top three list of schools.

"Indiana, Kentucky and Cincinnati," he said. "Those are the three schools I like a lot right now.

"Kentucky and Indiana I like the two coaches there and Cincinnati was the first school that let me visit and they have been so nice the whole time. I like them."

Hicks said he wasn't close to making a decision.

Unfortunately I doubt "nice" will be the difference maker in the end. Maybe, but I doubt it.

I was about to say something, but then realized it would be misrepresented by some people on here. Instead I will say that it would be nice if this kid would become a Bearcat.

Saw him play at Take 5 last summer. This kid was amazing for a player who had not yet entered his freshman year of high school. Usually at that age the best players stand out because they are more physically mature than those they are playing with. That was not the case with Hicks. He was one of the best players on the floor because of his talent and basketball IQ.

I hate to say it but I'd be extremely surprised if Hicks ended up a Bearcat.

By the time his senior season rolls around, he will be able to pick anywhere in the country to go to school...that's how good the kid is. I'd love to see him end up in red and black though.

Watched him in the King of the Bluegrass in Louisville this past winter and he is extremely talented for his age. He was also impressive in the state tournament this past spring against eventual state runner up, Louisville Ballard.

From Jody Demling of the Courier-Journal:

Wednesday marked the first day that high school juniors-to-be - the Class of 2013 - could officially get phone calls from college coaches.

And one of the top prospects in the state of Kentucky - Trinity combo guard Darryl Hicks - had his phone ringing off the hook for most of the day.

Hicks’ first call came at 12:05 a.m. from Georgia Tech.

The 6-foot-4 Hicks, who has said before he had an offer from Indiana, also heard from the Hoosiers’ coaching staff and plenty of others.

Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Marquette, Tennessee, DePaul, Virginia Tech, Auburn, George Mason, Xavier, Cincinnati, N.C. State, Georgia, Florida State and Wright State were among the calls, according to his father.

Hicks sat out last season after transferring from Shelby County to Trinity. He recently opened a lot of eyes nationally with key performances at the NIKE EBYL event in Los Angeles and the Nike Elite 100 last week in St. Louis.

Hate to say it but if UK wants Hicks, they'll get him.

From Wes Scott, a contributor on IU's 247 site: "Talked with Darryl Hicks. Said people sleep on his defense. Named IU as his "top school", with Cincy next. Said all schools still in."

I work at the highschool he used to play for.
I hate to say it but he has alot of maturity issues to deal with and that comes with a lack of commitment.

Good luck to him.

Good - I like the fact we're continuing to pursue him. Could be a huge win.

Jody Demling: Cincinnati and Vanderbilt were in to see '13 Darryl Hicks of Trinity; Cincy also stopped by Ballard for open gym.

I'm pretty sure we've been recruiting him since the Ed Jucker era.

‏@kyhighs
According to Trinity coach Mike Szabo, senior guard Darryl Hicks has committed to play basketball at Boston College.

Not sure if we were still recruiting him (probably not), but remember him being on UC's radar like 5 years ago haha
