Default UC Not Worried About Rank

http://news.cincinnati.com/article/2...ied-about-rank

I like the quote from Cashmere: "I can't wait for that time to come so we can show off what we learned over the summer. We feel like we're ready but we just have to wait for the right time to show everybody."

To me, I take this as, he knows tougher competition is coming and they still have plenty to prove. Also, if you read b/t the lines it's almost like he's alluding to that we might not have seen their A game, or that they're waiting to unvail it. (Maybe more than just needing tougher opponents.) Kinda like the theory that the early schedule, especially against weaker opponents, is a time for everyone to get some minutes and improve and work on your game.

This may explain some of the "2nd half letdowns" too. They be more concerned with running certain sets, spreading the minutes, and almost practicing rather than going full bore, and simply showcasing an improved product, or winning style points. I think someone made mention of this in another thread, maybe another site. That rather than just do what equates to points, or a bigger lead, they might be trying things offensively/defensively that they normally wouldn't against better competition. Growing a lead is not the primary concern type of stuff.

We'll see, with of all the debates on the schedule, I do like that both coach and his kids are owning up to needing to earn more respect. That's always good mindset to have. And if they're saying that, then I think we can stop arguing about it. There's a lot of work to be done, they still have plenty to prove. (From the horses mouth, not me, not Mr. Bearcat, not Ralph, not Living Legend, not whoever...)

Its possible we saw this against Dayton, who we throttled from the get go, without even seeing much time from Yancy.

I think Oklahoma is another team where this team will be looking to prove something against. We'll see how they respond.

Mick himself was quoted as saying something like "I am not into humiliating another team by running up the score". It speaks to the same mindset that this thread is about. I think we all know there is, at the very least, a little more left in the tank when we need it. Our bench players have learned some valuable lessons in the mean time. When their minutes are reduced in bigger games...they will still have the in game experience necessary to come in and contribute in a positive (perhaps more limited) way.

For the most part our starters have played pretty darn well. I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say we could be averaging 10 more points a game. Our bench players are feeling as if they are an intregal part of our success...and we are going to need each of them to come through in big games as we move into the toughest part of the schedule.

I think Mick is doing a great job so far using this WEAK schedule to his advantage over and above simply winning games. I just hope he can keep Gate's eye on the prize in the mean time until we get to the meat of the schedule when he is going to be called upon more heavily.

I agree with most of what is being said here. My only concern is that these guys will not be ready to play a full game when needed. The starters are used to coming in and playing hard for a half and then taking it easy. I would love for us to be able to press for 40 minutes. Kind of what Ark used to do with the whole 40 minutes of ****.

As long as Mick is working these guys hard in practice so that the conditioning is their when needed I think we will be just fine. I like the easy schedule and the confidence it should be building in the team. Plus I love that they are owning up to the weak schedule. It shows maturity on the teams part and they know they still have a lot to prove. If it happens and I hope it does 15-0 can't be a bad thing in my eyes. If we go 8-8 in the BE then we are stitting at 23-8. We just need a couple of big wins over some of the top talent.

I am a little surprised our RPI is at 80 right now out of 348. It gets a lot tougher soon enough.

Kind of off topic, but I play a game every time I see a Bearcat basketball article on the enquirer's site. I click on the comments and see how many comments down I have to read before I see a reference to Huggins. It's almost always on the first page of comments, usually only 2 or 3 comments down.

I think it's awesome that these kids believe they have another level that we have yet to see. Whether it's true or not...believing is the first step to making it a reality. If you don't believe...you won't accomplish it. I especially like the way Wright is talking. He's confident...but he knows there is work to do and the meat of the schedule is in front of them.

I don't know if it was the same article when a reporter asked "if it came down to a last second shot..who would take it?". Two UC players answered simultaneously "whoever is open!". That exact question has been asken in here a few times.

There are two GREAT articles on the main page right now that address much of what we have all been debating in here. It's almost as if this site is a standard source for what the fan base is thinking. It's tough to know what people are talking about around a water cooler at work. There has to be a place they can see it or hear it. It's as if the questions and concerns posed to them were asked directly by us on this site.

Please read "All Cats are Created Equal" and the link above. You may get a lot of your answers direct from the coach or players in these two relevant and well timed articles.
