I wasn't even out of diapers the last time our basketball program has been this low on attention from a national stage. So I started thinking about the value and rank of each school's basketball "brand name" in the Big East from an outsider's point of view. Here's what I came up with:
1. Syracuse 2. UConn 3. Louisville 4. Georgetown 5. Villanova 6. West Virginia 7. Pittsburgh 8. Cincinnati 9. Marquette 10. Notre Dame 11. Rutgers 12. St. John's 13. Seton Hall 14. Depaul 15. Providence 16. South Florida Thoughts? Disagreements? *Note* This does assume the average outsider is a knowledgeable college basketball admirer.

I think Villanova ranks lower. Outside basketball fandom I doubt most people know anything about them.
We may be to low although most outsiders probably still think Huggins is coach here. If I look at my own area, we're certainly higher. K-mart, Max, and Nick Williams came from the area.

Heck, I'm a UCATs donor and a season ticket holder for 30 plus years, and I'm not sure how much I care. So I can't blame the national media for overlooking the team. It is what it is........

I'd move Rutgers behind Providence, DePaul, St. John's and Seton Hall. These are programs that have all either won national championships or made final fours in the last 30 years, and definitly have alot more brand than Rutgers, who have basically done nothing ever.

Rutgers' ties to New York are constantly overstated.
