No mention of a UC visit in this update. Top 20 kid looking like a long shot.

From ZagsBlog:
Maurice Harkless has trimmed his list to eight schools. The 6-foot-8 Queens, N.Y. native wrote on Twitter he’s considering the following schools after spending next year at South Kent (Conn.): St. John’s, Maryland, Florida, N.C. State, Cincinnati, Rutgers, Arizona and Memphis. I asked Harkless if that means UConn is definitely out and he said, “Yes.” Harkless recently decommitted from UConn. |

From Zag:
"HARKLESS SETS UNOFFICIALS Maurice Harkless, a 6-8 wing from Queens, will visit St. Johns (Sept. 2), Rutgers (Sept. 4) and Maryland (Sept. 5) unofficially. He will then take an official to Oregon Sept. 17. Harkless opted to switch his first official to Oregon from Maryland. He is also considering Florida State, Florida, Cincinnati and Arizona." |

Harkless (#45 Rivals.com) set to choose St. John's
Kadeem Jack (#33 Rivals.com) chose Rutgers UC has three under-the-radar commits for 2011 with lots of "upside" - not feeling so great here |

This is starting to cross over into the 2011 recruiting needs thread in the main forum. The statement was made that Mick may not have the charisma to land guys of this caliber. Obviously Lavin and Rice do.

It's amazing how good a coach can recruit when they win games on the floor. I'm sure recruiting gets harder as the results remain mediocre. Lavin and Rice have past success or clean slates to build from.

Always a HUGE long shot for both Harkless and Jack. Let's not act like it was a surprise or we were favorites.

Didn't expect Harkless, not sure if ever in the running for Jack. The point being is Rutgers and SJU both got a really solid recruit today and UC has two nearly unheard of guys (Ellis and Smith) and one guy that has been a middle-of-the-row guy for a while (Guyn). I'll end it there b/c I already took this semi- off topic

Bummer b/c he is exactly the type of recruit that the program needs. Nothing personal against the lower rated kids, but UC really needs a big time signing.
