He also has an offer from D'ville. O$U (Kerry Combs), Penn state and South Carolina are actively recruiting Barker. He has interest in Alabama, Illinois, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Nothwestern and Purdue (again. per espn).

Drew Barker is a 6'4", 205lb pocket passer from Conner High School, Hebron Ky. Here are links to other blurbs about Barker.

My thought is you can never have too many offers to High School quarterbacks for various reasons. One: the attrition rate of high school QBs that successfully transition to a College QB is high. Two: this goes along with one in that many of those QBs end up as successful wide receivers or cornerbacks. Three: You want about 2 QBs in every class for competition reasons and somebody is going to get hurt/transfer or drop out entirely. Just my three cents worth of opinion.

Those are all good points, but my main fear is that if we are overrecruiting one position then we must be underrecruiting another. If your second point was completely true I would not have this fear, but in UC's recent history we have not had a lot of luck with converting QB's to other positions. I.E. Demetrius Jones to LB

I think many would agree that QB is the most important position on the field. I believe recruiting 2 per year is not a bad idea. Most schools do this.

If you take Jone's year at UC you will find that while he does over recruit quarterbacks, the numbers dwindle to one a year. His strategy of constantly having competition at the most important position on the team is something that is done elsewhere.

If recruiting 2 Qb's a year will guarantee at least an above average quarterback will be taking snaps at all times then I can't argue it. However, I will probably blame our lack of depth at certain positions on it.

You can blame our lack of depth on the fact that less than half of Kelly's recruits continued playing at UC....for various reasons. Butch is doing a good job. We just need the fanbase to realize it and fill the damn stadium up!

I agree 100%, and I am behind Butch all the way. I just wanted to stir up a little discussion. Bearcatnews has been pretty quiet lately except for the neverending Chris Obepka recruitment.

We need BearcatChris (unless he's changed his name to OSUChris).

He's always good for some controversy!

Conner junior-to-be quarterback Drew Barker continues to garner plenty of attention as the University of Cincinnati and University of Illinois offered the standout this past week.

Barker, who also has an offer from the University of Louisville, threw for 1,009 yards and rushed for 1,371 yards last season.
