Default BIG EAST SEC Challenge

Last I saw, there were four schools scheduled to play on the road in the challenge this year out of the SEC that we had a good chance of playing. Does anyone know what schools they were? I completely forget. I know there were 6 schools total that are suppose to play road games this year, but some post I saw made it sound like it was down to four schools for us. I am interested in which ones, so I can guess what espn may give us. Thanks.

I heard it was UK but Calipare told ESPN he wouldn't do it because he was afraid they will lose. Now UK will be playing Depaul.

Who cares. It is national attention. UC's basketball program needs attention in just about any way it can get it.

Is that fact or are you guessing that this will be the opponent? Depaul would really drag down their RPI.

Last year's SEC home teams were: South Carolina, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi State.

Not sure if Missouri and Texas A&M will be part of this or not.

If not, we will get one of those six schools mentioned above.

Kentucky obviously would be my first choice. But I think Alabama is returning a pretty good team and Tennessee would also be an interesting matchup. I doubt we'll see Georgia again. South Carolina and Mississippi State would be on the bottom of my list. Definitely wouldn't mind seeing Missouri come to 5/3rd, but not sure they are in it.

It is almost set in stone that UK is going to Gtown. I really hope we get UT and if not, maybe alabama.

SEC is garbage.

UC should not be matched up with Georgia, and Kentucky seems destined for Georgetown as Thegreatone says. That list doesn't fill me with excitement after Kentucky, so I suppose the next best might be...? Tennessee?

South Carolina makes sense....bringing former Bearcat coach Frank Martin back. You gotta like that guy!

UK admin still doesn't want to play UC

That burn game in the early 80's on national tv was the tipping point and they don't want to re-open the door

That's not the reason, maybe an excuse, but not a reason. The real truth is that UC historically has good teams, and their fans would deem a loss to UC as unacceptable. They have little to gain and more to lose, so quite frankly I don't blame them.

The pairings are set to be released this week, possibly even today. Based on what I have heard, read, seen, etc. an educated guess is that Alabama is coming to FTA.

Not 100% positive on it but that is what it appears.

Now for the predictions?? I would wager the Big East wins 8 out of the 12 match-ups. And yes, this is an off the cuff prediction but feels realistic to me.

The UC FB team plays at UConn on 12/1, which is the date of the Bama BB game. ESPN holds the rights to both, although the FB game probably won't be of as much interest to them, unless both UC and UConn are contending. If not, the game will be shoved off to the BE Network.

Let's hope ESPN has enough common sense not to schedule the two games at the same time.

I really like more than half of the matchups in this event, but not much more than that. The SEC, frankly, isn't as deep, but four of the strongest BE programs aren't participating: UConn (pariahs), UofL, Pitt and Temple.

While I'm sure virtually all on this board were licking their chops over a potential visit from UK, the Wildcats weren't exactly handed a piece of cake. The Joyce Center is ferocious. Any team expecting to go in there and win had best come prepared for a dogfight.

On the other hand, Marquette drew the Gators in Gainesville. That'll be a toughie to pull out.

SC at St. John's? The Johnnies will have superior talent (even if Mick can convince Obekpa that Clifton is home), but they don't draw flies at MSG.

The Hall (a perplexing team to figure out each year) has to go to Baton Rouge, but LSU hasn't been very good lately. This and the DePaul at abysmal Auburn most likely will have few eyes glued to which ever ESPN option they're shunted off to.

Cuse, as always, will be excellent, and are a good team to send to Fayetteville. The Hogs will want to run, which will be fine by Boeheim.

TN at Georgetown is an interesting pairing. Will the Vols be patient enough to sit down and guard the Hoyas?

GA at USF (yawn). The Bulls will be very young and their fans will be at the beach.

Nova at Vandy will be a test. The Commodores are usually pretty good, especially at home, but they tend to be a dull as dishwater. The Wildcats were disappointing last year. Let's see if they can rebound.

MS State at Providence. How does one get from Starkville, MS, to Providence, RI? There must be two or three connecting flights involved. Then, the Bulldogs step outside the airport and catch that nice North Atlantic breeze wafting in with the horizontal sleet.

Rutgers at Ole Miss. I predict that Mike Rice will blow a gasket sometime early in the second half and get tossed. Meanwhile, prior to the game, Andy Kennedy will restrain himself from punching a cabbie.

Overall, I see the BE taking the series, 7-5. With some of the power teams sitting this out, too many of the matchups will be left in the hands of middling-to-weak teams.

Temple is in the A-10 still this year.

I just realized that when I read this ESPN.com article on Syracuse & Pitt both being unhappy with their participation/non-participation this year. The realignment mess just continues to interfere with aspects that apparently weren't even considered before.

Evan Daniels, Scout.com: Devonta Pollard is headed to Alabama. He was the last top 50 player to make his college choice.

And his next tweet: Montrezl Harrell and Chris Obekpa are the final two uncommitted prospects in the 2012 top 100.
