Default Crosstown Shootout almost done deal

Quote:
University of Cincinnati athletic director Whit Babcock and Xavier University athletic director Mike Bobinski both said Friday the two schools are headed toward an agreement that will see them meet in basketball for the 80th time next season.

“Things are trending in that direction, yes,” Babcock said when asked if the game would be played next season. “It’s a good game for the city of Cincinnati in general if it’s done right. Having said that, there are some remaining details still to be ironed out and conversations are still ongoing. I would expect a joint announcement of some sort in the next month or so should things continue to progress favorably. Both schools will need to finalize our non-conference schedules in the not too distant future so time is of the essence.”

No date has been set for the game, nor has a site been settled on, although UC’s Fifth Third Arena is in line to host it after it was played at Cintas last year.

As a season holder, I'm curious to see how tickets will be handled for this event. I'm guessing tickets will be split 50/50 for UC and XU, meaning UC could get about 8,500 tickets for this event.

I am hoping that they will take care of their season ticket holders for this event, but I'm not holding my breath on it.

How will playing this game on a "neutral" court stop the crap that happens on the Egg Savers side of the court? Still can't believe that we're not at least going to shut this down for a couple years so everyone can get some perspective before resuming. I'm personally in favor of never playing the game again, but I know that's not realistic.

If the fans were 50/50, I feel like this would create a lot of animosity and tension among the fans -- even if not as much between the players.

I am totally against this. For a school supposedly hurting for money, this makes no sense. If the Gangstateers held out, then don't play the game and find someone else.

I'm fine with this. With UC fans in attendence the nerds/virgins over at Xavier are likely to keep their mouths zipped up (pun intended) with the over the top antics that created the hostile atmosphere this year. The best bet is to have a buffer zone between the student sections with adults (read the sit on their hands fans). XU fans on the XU bench side and UC fans on the UC bench side. Each team has to go to the opposing teams side of the court in the second half.

National publicity should be good next year and for years to come which will help recruiting tremendously so it would be awesome to bring in recruits for that game unless we get one for UK also.

Buying my tickets the second they become available. Ticket sales people just need to do their jobs and let each school sell the tickets which have to be purchased by either their season ticket holders, students, or they have to come by the tickets on the campus.

L...A..M...E...US Bank Arena is a dump. Not that the Shoe is a palace; however, there's something charming about playing on campus. Disappointed to hear this...

Agreed but I'd rather play there than nowhere.

I tend to like the move. Get to hang out at the Banks and go to the game each year. Sounds like a good time to me.

I dont mind having to pay for the tickets but I hope they give season ticket holders first dibs. Thats all I care about.

IMO this is a terrible idea and reaks of a complete over-reaction to what happened last season. Let's summarize:

1) UC loses a guaranteed sellout at FTA and it appears as if our opponent in the SEC/BE challenge that won't be Kentucky will be our best OOC home game unless there is some game in the works that I am unaware of.

2) I assume that the tickets will be split 50/50? If so, I think UC season ticket holders are getting shafted in that they will most likely have to purchase an XU ticket aside from their normal package.

3) I hope that ESPN is giving UC a ton of cash for this movie of the week crap. Put us on TV to show that we can play nice......after ESPN replays the brawl 5,438 times.

As everyone here knows I am a huge supporter of Mick and really like what Whit has brought to UC however, sorry to say, they got this one wrong. Play the game as is or get rid of it.

I think Whit has done a great job so far for the most point. I think he whiffed on this one. If Mick had a hand in this, he's gone down a step in my book.

I am excited for the excitement and new traditions that my friends and I will have. I have a lot of X friends and look forward to hanging out before and going to a game at US Bank.

Upsetting. With all the attention this game is going to get, and the letters that are likely to come out from the universities before gameday about sportsmanship by players and fans, its not going to make a difference where the game is going to played. Play at the home courts.

You couldn't do this before with the games on campus?

The first thing I thought was "50% UC fans AND 50% X fans? That's a recipe for disaster". Tension will be thick, they better beef up security big time, as I can see lots of fights.

I personally wasn't worried about on-court fighting happening again next year if ever, I was more worried about extra curricular crap going on in the stands and before and after the game - having a neatral court w/ 50% fans of each school is NOT a wise move, IMO.

I would have preferred two years off, keeping the series "on schedule" as far as which school hosts the game. If it must continue, then this is probably the next best alternative. However, I am not happy with this decision.

Indiana and Kentucky did it that way for years. It was great!!!

One side blue and one side red.

Outstanding atmosphere.
