Don't see what the big deal is. Go down to USBank for a couple years, let things return to normal.

Maybe half the problem with this stupid rivalry is that people should chill out about it. Just a game.

I just think that this decision validates the fight even more, as a real concern, when the whole issue should have been dead and buried. As ugly an incident as the melee after last year's game was, I think that both coaching staffs and universities handled it admirably going forward, and both teams went on to have terrific seasons. So, why even consider a move downtown that only begs the question as to whether such a move is in response to the brawl? The brawl is over. In the meantime, this has been a long-standing and celebrated home-and-home series, and it would be a shame to take these games off campus.

On a slightly different tangent, I think that there is a push to get as much money into downtown Cincinnati as possible. 16,000 people, and the ancillary revenue that they provide is a good deal for the city. Why the schools would sign off on that idea, I don't know. Personally, if I were the Prez' of UC and X, I would lobby to keep these games on campus, and bring money into the universities and the surrounding areas. Then again, if the two schools split a 16,000 seat gate, not to mention the other revenues, EVERY SINGLE year from playing downtown, then it might be a better deal for each school than UC's 13,176 every OTHER year, and X's 10,000 every OTHER year. I'm glad that UC decided not to continue at PBS a couple times per year. Obviously, the financial windfall was not so great from the games the FB team played there. But, a university needs to take opportunities to showcase its own campus and facilities, even if it falls short of other facilities, in order for longer standing benefit; which is why this move to US Bank arena just does not make much sense.

The only reason UC will not be playing a game at PBS this year is that no one on the schedule could potentially draw over 50,000 to pad the pockets.

We will play there again when we have an opponent that can help with the gate.

4:00 p.m. joint press conference being held at the Freedom Center, expected to verify they will go neutral

I wonder if it will involve presidents, ADs, and/or coaches. Seeing Cronin and Mack next to each other would be far more uncomfortable than the awkward Hoxworth/Skyline commercials.

The one where neither look at all thrilled to be there, and Cronin makes it painfully obvious with his utterly uncaring attitude and dull expression while reciting the lines? I love that commercial every time it plays

Offical announcement for Skyline Chilli Crosstown Classic:
Quote:
UC President Gregory H. Williams and Xavier President Michael J. Graham, S.J., say they are excited about the new look to this great rivalry.

“We wanted to find ways to remind us all, including student-athletes and fans, that our athletic competition is about our two universities coming together to celebrate our hometown of Cincinnati and the mutual respect we have for each other. We want to celebrate the values we share in common and use this event to positively impact the city we both call home beyond just game night,” Williams and Graham said.

I actually heard Whit Babcock say exactly the same thing at a function recently. UC informed X that they would not play on the X campus again, and if X wanted to keep the game it had to be neutral.

Larkin seems to imply that the reason is because UC was scared of losing, but the impression I got from Mr. Babcock is that UC was tired of the X crowd's animal behavior and vicious obscene slurs we were subjected to every time we played there.

This is probably going to be an incredibly unpopular opinion but I am prepared to deal with that, but now in addition to lessened maximum ticket revenue, there is a beneficiary sucking up some of what's left from that minimized ticket revenue?

Not liking this turn of events

I posted this on Twitter and will repeat it here n more than 140 chars.

The Texas/OU football games used to be known as the Red River Shootout. Someone decided that wasn't PC so now it's the Red River Rivalry. Unlike UC/XU, UT/OU play in Dallas during the Texas State fair at the Cotton Bowl. It's 3.5 hours away from both campuses and the tickets are split down the middle. This would be the equivalent of UC/XU playing in Mansfield and everyone driving there.

The one difference I can see here is the Freedom Museum as Beneficiary of the game because in the RRR's case, the biggest Bennie is the Texas State Fair.

Anywho, The point is we will get used to the name and venue change even if we hate it now.

While I preferred that the game be held on campus, the die is cast. There's nothing we can do about it, except fill up the allotment of 8,500 and dominate.

I heard Whit Babcock on Mo Egger's show today and he said the game will not be part of the season ticket package. However, only season ticket holders will be permitted to buy tickets, unless there are leftovers. In that situation, a decision will be made as to how the remainder will be sold.

People were down on the neutral site, people laughing about the new name.

At the end of the day, at least for me, this sounds pretty cool. I would've preferred being at Fifth Third this year, but I think this will be exciting to be at a neutral court sold out 50/50 game. My only Shootout was two years ago when we dominated X. So fun. But how cool will it be if we can win this year in front of 8000 Xavier fans while still with 8000 of our own? Ideal - no? Fun - yes? Plus it's almost certainly going to be on The Worldwide Leader. Count me in.

I stand corrected. I just hate to see the game not played at FTA.

Two terms that will never cross my lips:
Crosstown Classic
Fifth Third Arena

They will always be:
The Crosstown Shootout
The Shoemaker Center

I may be in the minority here but in my opinion, I would prefer that this game get dropped altogether. This applies to the Miami(OH) game too in football and in basketball. This opens up a slot on the schedules to play a home-and-home against another big name opponent.

Andy Katz:

Making the Cincinnati-Xavier game about a charitable effort was a longtime coming. I understand why the game is being moved to a neutral site at U.S. Bank Arena, but in the long term the game needs to return to campus sites where it belongs. This is one neutral-site that shouldn’t be sterile. Still, the long-term survival of the series needs to be on campus, back rotating between the raucous atmospheres at Xavier and Cincinnati.

Who cares. It is national attention. UC's basketball program needs attention in just about any way it can get it.

Now the last time I was at a UC/X basketball game as a student was 53 years ago, and memory in that time frame often fails completely or misremembers, but I thought that was at a neutral site, and it seem to me it worked just fine.
