Default Scout Recruiting Ratings

It is sooooo predictable...

Jameel Poteat has been a 4 star RB...forever!

He withdraws his verbal to Pitt and commits to UC...three weeks later, Scout changes his rating to a 3 star!

Butch really has his work cut out for him. Recruit the best class in the history of UC football...and every time you get a highly ranked athlete to commit...Scout changes their ranking!

After all, he must be a 3 star...if he were a 4 star, he would be committing to $OSU, or UF, or USC, or even Pitt...but never to UC!!!! What a joke!

Apparantly capcbk cares.

Why isn't this in the recruiting section?

My opinion falls more in line with Otto, I don't care what rank the kid is so long as he is able to play at a high level.

Poteat remained a 4 star in the final rivals 250, FYI.

Seems to be an inconsistency somewhere. His profile shows him as a 4 star but on the front page of BCI down in the 'commit' section it shows that he's a 3 star.

This had been mentioned elsewhere, but here's the link for the class ranking so far by MaxPreps:

Finally, we do not see Pitt on that list.

Thanks for the link.

Only one other Big East team (L'ville) on there besides UC. That bodes well for future conference championships I hope.

By the way, how does Clemson pull a top 20 class almost every year but they are always mediocre? They've got to be one of the biggest perennial disappointments of the last decade.

It's all based on school. BK was a terrible recruiter here, yet magically pulls in a top 10 class to ND. Uh, sure.

ND fans buy subscriptions... Bingo!

I wouldn't necessarily go that far. Notre Dame recruits itself. As much as I hate it, it's true.

Can you say "Pitt"?

Part of the reason BK couldn't recruit at UC was he constantly had one foot out the door at all times. I know specific high school coaches, of perennial playoff programs too, that point blank told their players don't consider UC if you are anticipating playing for BK your entire college career.

Now that he's at ND he's likely in it for the long haul. He's a charismatic guy with a track record of success. What kid wouldn't want to go play for him now that he's likely going to be around for a minimum of 5 years, perhaps more if he wins.

Dang it, we're knocked out of the top 25 in the 1/22 MaxPreps update. L'ville is still in it.

Yeah, but based on performance the past 6 years, they're a sub top 25 team.

I don't care how bad a coach Weis/Willingham were (they weren't THAT bad), a team with a supposed top 5 recruiting class should easily be top 25 consistently.

That tells me that their classes were consistently overrated by the ranking services.

I think there is more evidence that the notre dame lore does not connect with the elite football player the way it once did. maybe to a couple GCL schools in cincinnati, but not the super stud freak of nature football player that the alabama/florida/auburns of the world get.

Academic standards are just a tad bit more strict at ND vs. the SEC. This limits ND to the Catholic League in Cincinnati where they get students.

Academic standards are in fact much tougher at ND than the SEC, but that doesn't entirely explain ND's drop in football over the last 15 years. There are a ton of blue chippers from the southern states that have the SAT scores & grades to get into ND, but good luck getting them to a cold weather town like South Bend. The better kids in the deep south have so many options now for college football (think Texas, Florida, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, etc) that ND is usually not even on their radar.
The huge population shift from the midwest & northeast states to the south over the last 20 years has made ND's task even tougher.
