http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/boxscore?gid=200711260116 Larry Davis had good numbers. I like him at the guard spot.

Davis, Vaughn, and Cashmere Wright will be a terrific trio of UC guards next season.

No idea. Based on what MC said in postgame show Saturday, I doubt it. He said (paraphrasing, not quoting) Vaughn was his PG until Warren could play.

Mick praised Larry Davis as the most improved frosh. Said the kid is a sponge and absorbs everything they teach him.

Alvin Mitchell must not be a sponge. LOL.

based on watching last few games (not his based on his #s but his quickness, ball handling, and form on the shot) and I would say Larry Davis is the best player on the team (seriously). He has the quickest feet on defense and is the most capable on offense being able to put the ball on the floor and has a credible outside shot. He also handles the ball well in the open court for a 2 gaurd. Gentry should watch his stance on defense (or a clip of OJ Mayo who gets low on a wide base). The difference between him and gentry will become more apparent i believe as the year goes on.

Davis hasnt really run any point. Bishop handles the point when Vaughn is sitting. He got his leg hit early in the game tonight though and had an ice or heat pack on it alot on the bench.

Gentry will see less and less playing time as the freshman develop. He is a complete liability on defense, so unless his 3 point shooting is on, he has very little reason to be on the court. He can't fight through screens, can defend on the ball, not a good rebounder, etc..I see Davis, Bishop and Wilks splitting his playing time up.

Had he not been out his whole senior year, I think Davis would have been top 50.

I've been touting him for a long time, so it's good to hear my early praise was justified.

Davis is really good! Satterfieldesk! Gentry hustles alot but just cant play at this level and gets burned alot.. Vaughn is just buckets all day and wilks is getting more talented. We now have more talent and rebounding with him picking up more min.. he is better on defense then adverstised as well! Bishop will be solid all year. Alvin needs to get smarter and get more confident and we will be able to compete!

rip on Gentry if you want, but he gives something that most the rest of them dont right now. Effort. He plays with a ton of energy on both ends of the court, and his defense looked better tonight.

Mitchell may not be 6-5, but if he isnt then Bishop isnt 6-6 either because they look pretty close standing side by side.

So far, I feel better about the future at guard and SF with a rotation of Vaughn and Davis and hopefully Mitchell gets his head in the game, and then Bishop and Wilks at SF.

I would rather have a sharpe stick in the eye than kennysatterfield type of player... its a personal thing.

He was rated the #1 guard in Texas before his injury.

Default What game did you guys see?

Based on the feedback in this thread you would think the Cats won by 40. They barely beat the worst team in D1. Larry Davis had a nice box score, but I remain unconvinced about him. Marvin Gentry? Mick ripped the upper classmen after the game (I assume that includes him). Of those who offered input on this thread, how many were actually at the game? Unless somthing changes dramaticly this season will be a disaster on a par with the 3-25 year (I was there for that great season and witnessed it first hand). It's no more playing directional schools no one ever heard of. It's time for big kid basketball, and these guys are no where near ready.

I believe there is cause for hope, but it is painfully obvious that this team has no clue how to put anyone away at this point. Mick is right, you never see one of the players from last season's team grab a player or pull them aside and talk to them. You never see them encourage or call a player out. Marcus Sikes may be the laziest player on the team this season. My main area of complaint is effort. I expect them to look bad at times but they need to play consistently hard and so far that has only been seen in spurts. It takes time for Frosh to realize they can't take a play off but the guys from last season should be sitting that example. As I have said a bunch of times though, that is why they were left over when Mick recruited them. Our future is in the newcomers and Vaughn and I still believe this team can be competitive this season. Again, how that quantifies into wins I don't know.

Put Warren at PG and move Vaughn to SG. Let Davis back him up and move Vaughn to PG when he does. That will improve guard play.

Let Wilks, Belton, Bishop, and Mitchell play (much) more at forward spots. Ditto McClain at center.

If we L at least they gain valuable experience.

They need to gain valuable experience in practice before they will be permitted to gain valuable experience in games. The rest of the team is trying to win, you have to be fair to those who are out there to win games and not play those who are out there to only gain experience.

Who said Belton and Mitchell won't try to win? They can't do that from the bench.

i really liek what i saw from wilks last night...hes always trying to egt around the basket and make plays. larry davis is going to be a great guard but i still give gentry the edge. this team will win more games and look much better when we have warren at the point.vaughn is a true shooting guard.
