Default 2012 recruiting class could be best in history

From Bill Koch: http://cincinnati.com/blogs/uc/2011/...st-in-history/

Butch is a program builder. We need to keep this guy around.

4-8 was a minor blip on the radar that can be written off as a tough transition. 9-3 will be closer to the reality each year he is here IMO.

With the Big East in flux I was realllllly worried a lot of the guys who have verbal'd wouldn't be in Cinci on signing now. This now quells my fears. Hopefully we keep AQ! It is ESSENTIAL!

With the addition of media darling Boise St as a football member to the Big East the AQ is safe for the time being.

I'm not going to assume that Boise=AQ. The BCS wants to get away from AQ entirely. When that would take effedct is probably 2013 when our AQ runs out. IF this happens, expect BSU and SDSU to back out.

For what it's worth, scout has us ranked at #16 after snagging Trenton Norvell this morning. This class just keeps getting better.

Who is this Trenton Norvell, and why would he move our class so much higher? I admit no time to keep up on recuirting.

Looks like a tall, rangy drop-back (pro style) QB (three-star, previously committed to Marshall). I am sure Coney is thrilled about this. They might both redshirt anyway. IMO competition at every position is a good thing.

I think the move up was a combination of the players who verballed recently. From what I remember, we had three or four 3-star players verbal in the last couple of weeks.

I think I saw a blurb somewhere indicating that UC has too many commits forcing some to be rescinded. Of all of the recruiting problems to have, this is the best of 'em.

You probably saw Mark Ennis on twitter. I like him, but couldn't stand his extreme reactions to the UC-XU game, so I unfollowed.

We have several early enrollees (I've seen as many as 6 listed). That explains the number of commits. I have also seen rumors that one or two may not make it academically. My understanding is we will be fine, numbers-wise, if those that are eligible sign on signing day.

He will probably commit to Penn State on moral grounds.

All these recruits will be get their scholarships, there will be some jr. and sr. that aren't getting any playing time in Jones system giving up their schollys. If theres any that are close to graduating, those will go 1st.

Care to elaborate on this? I could understand the BCS wanting to make the system more exclusive for the big boys - after all the whole system is about making the rich richer and keeping upstarts out - so how do you see them eliminating the "AQ entirely" and making the system more exclusive?

Easy... no AQ, then the bowls can invite who they please, or maintain/create whatever tie-ins they want. No AQ means moons would be forced to take a BEast champ or a Non-AQ champion that meets certain ranking requirements.

Besides the sheer volume, the most impressive part of Jone's recruit has been the regional and national reach. UC has traditionally gotten 1-2 kids from Florida over the course of a few recruiting classes. Jones has raided the state as well as Indiana and PA, two places were UC has only had marginal recruiting success in the past. Ohio will always be a priority but Jones took over knowing he had to supplement Ohio kids with talent from outside the state.

Without taking the time to find all the links, I was under the impression that the serious changes to the BCS system coming up were not going to affect AQ status of conference but that they are finally under serious consideration of adding a seeded plus one system to determining the championship.
