Well, the tail end of my time at UC coincided with the "Bearcat Nikki" days. Remember her? She of the original midriff-bearing sports bra, who was really only attractive BECAUSE of the midriff-bearing sports bra (I actually hear she's doing well for herself as a chef these days). Nowadays you see that type of thing at most ANY college game. Point being, as much as we UC fans like to consider ourselves to be a tasteful bunch, we have always been more a$$ than class, if you know what I mean. And that's not necessarily a bad thing.
I was at one game when Huggs had to get on the PA microphone to chastise the crowd for throwing stuff onto the court. I think it was against UNC-Charlotte. In another game against Memphis, back when both teams were perennial powerhouses, during a timeout, late in a close and important game, our dance team started to get down right outside the Memphis huddle and our mascot was taunting the U of M players to the point where a Memphis player went a gave a flying elbow to our mascot coming out of the timeout. So a little ribbing of your rivals, even if it's not so good-natured, is fine by me. Bad sportsmanship says you? If you say so. But, there used to be something unsettling about coming in to play UC at the "Shoe", and last night was the first time in YEARS that it seemed like the Shoe of old, at least on TV. Great game to watch last night, both in terms of the game AND the crowd Remeber kids, a$$ beats class any day of the week. Last edited by Brooklyn Bearcat : 02-24-2012 at 01:43 PM. |

IMO, chane brought that chant on himself. He backed out of UC and ran for the hills then comes back and says this is his city blah blah blah. |

Just another reason to hate Pitino. Class? U of L is about as low class as it gets. I've been hassled numerous times in Louisville for UL/UC games (had things thrown at me, you name it). The average U of L fan is a walking red neck turd.

as far as class goes anybody have any bad experiences with UL fans at the game? the traveled well again but i couldn't believe the few i made contact with. there was a group of 4 or so in the student section talking smack about our team the whole game (as opposed to just cheering for louisville). then when the game was in the balance at the end, louisville had a foul call go against them and one of the dudes chucked his half full beer down towards the court. didn't make it but it showered about 10 rows of students with beer. needless to say, after that he became fearful for his life and didn't say another word. everyone was giving it to him. then walking home after the game i was next to an intoxicated louisville couple (late 20's) waiting to cross the street when the man walks out into calhoun and smacks the side of a passing fire truck. then said, "f*** them, they f***ing beat us." i really couldn't believe how the UL fans were acting in the student section. i mean if you wanna buy a ticket and come cheer on your team that's one thing...but don't come into our house and take a sh** on the floor! have some respect for your surroundings. i just wish we would of had the game well and hand so i could have ran my mouth |

I have zero problem with a kid switching his mind. I said early on he would back out, committing that early to a school is just silly. But when you switch dont come back and say this is your city. Guys who stay home, like Yancy, can make that claim. He cannot.

I'm betting that the average age of the bearcats fans on here who had a problem with the taunting of Chane is roughly 65

Coming into the shoe is not supposed to be a pleasant experience for the visiting team. This is the first time in how long that an opponent has been pi$$ed off due to the atmosphere? I want teams to look at their schedule and dread coming to play in our arena. Not just because of the team they will face, but because of the crowd. That's big time basketball people. Some people try to be too nice. Nice people suck and are generally less successful.

Gotta agree with catscratchfever as long as we don't act like the Xavier hypocrites and be totally classless and then claim to be morally superior...kinda like Pitino did with his sniveling last night...then I am fine with our student section cheering just as long as they stay LOUD. Can't wait to see what the crowd is like on senior night. And Behanan had no problem with the way the crowd was heckling him last night.
I will say one thing though. If Mick would've said what Pitino said last night there would be message boards and forums filled up throughout Cincinnati calling him a crybaby and calling for his head.

In the not too distant past, the UC pep band would play...
Da-Da-Da-Da-DaDa-DaDaDa...to which the crowd would say VERY LOUDLY LOUISVILLE SUCKS. Did they do this last night?

They've been forbidden to play " Go Blue" since the 80s but most of the time they sneak it in once much to the chagrin of the Ath Dept.

I had a good time with some UL fans seated near me. We went back and forth most of the game talking good natured smack, smiling and laughing together the whole time. I will admit that due to the late tip-off I was somewhat impaired before the game even started, and when I get that way I like to have fun and am not quite so rabid about the actual game. On the way out I was telling them "thanks for buying a ticket", and they couldn't help but laugh with me. No hating from me or towards me with the UL fans. All in all a great night and a great win. The only sucky part was finally getting to my bed up in Troy at 0140hrs Friday morning, followed by getting woken up by my alarm at 0500hrs to get ready for a long work day...

The Big East sportsmanship initiative has also killed some of the other pep band traditions. The "Who's He...." cheer used to be huge in the student section at least, but it was seen as not promoting a positive environment or something silly like that.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that chant, and nothing classless about it either. This was not the type of vicious personal attack you get from the Xavier brats. The kid verballed here then backed out to go to a rival. What kind of reaction did he expect? If we landed the top player in Louisville what treatment would he get there? Pitino was just mad because he lost, and his behavior after the game showed poor sportsmanship.

Let me say for the record the atmosphere was rocking. Hasn't been like that since Louisville 2003.

I never liked how Chane backed out of his verbal commitment...
HOWEVER, I found out from a very close source that he always wanted to go to either Memphis or Louisville and the only reason he chose UC in the first place is because his coach thought they both were a "package deal" and wanted a coaching job at UC. When you look at it at way, you can't really blame the kid for backing out of UC if he really never wanted to come here in the first place. Do you even want a player to wear "Cincinnati" on their chest if they don't want to be here?

i think what we are seeing is a coach near the end of his career who is frustrated with losing 3 straight to one of his former assistants. thinking that a former local kid who decommited is not going to hear something from a packed house is just stupidity. he's an east coast guy and trust me he has seen a LOT more hostility than that. whining about officiating is generally the mark of a frustrated coach. there were at least 3 blatant traveling call on louisville's guards coming to sliding stops that were not called, not to mention several hacks on gates. to the referee's credit, they called some of them in the 2nd half. he should focus a little more on why his team was 1 for whatever from 3's. a referee's job is to be independent. they do not owe him anything, particulalry when he is all over them. hopefully, he gets a reprimand. i'm sure he is feeling heat in louisville over callipari at uk.
