I firmly and honestly believe that this game will be/ should be cancelled because Xavier fans have taken the hatred to a new level.
Xavier players hit UC players 3 out of the last 4 years and this year UC players hit back. Sadly, it was Yancy who fought back and when yancy fights it usually ends bad. 4 years ago: Kenny Frease headbuts Yancy Gates. 2 years ago: Tu takes swing at Thomas and connects with elbow Last year: Tu slaps Guyn; Wells shoves Guyn Sooner or later a UC player was going to snap. Yancy was tired of dealing with it. Take into consideration the frustrating lost last year and someone had to do something. Why should UC continue to play against a team that is clearly unable to play a clean game. How many chances do we need to give them? 3 problems in 4 years is enough for me. Get them out. |

i'd be willing to put up a lot of money that says the game will be played next year.
i still think it's funny how prior to last year's game, the talk had been for years how low the interest was in the game. (remember the players giggling at the press conference after the game.) then one ugly game and it's spun to look like this had been brewing for years. the game will (and should) go on. |

The game has to go on. The National Interest in next year's game will force it into primetime on National TV on a weekend (Not just ESPN I'm talking CBS with their top announcer crew) where they can't continue to ignore us just because a former coach isn't here anymore.
That's the publicity that would help out Mick and bringing interested recruits to a packed Shoe (Sorry Fifth-Third but I'll nver not call it The Shoe)going crazy like no other is exactly what we need to start bringing in the top players in the country. As a side note the game needs to be played after the students come back from Christmas break so we have a truly packed and rowdy house.

I will be extremely hissed off if they do not have the game next year and only slightly less hissed if they move it to US Bank.

Obsolutely, and next year the game will attract every media outlet within 2000 miles. Wouldn't be surprised if its the lead in game to North Carolina/Duke on rivalary week on ESPN.

I think that Xavier needs the game more than UC. The reality is that UC is Xavier's most interesting regular season game. And to punish Xavier for how it handled the aftermath of the brawl last year, UC should not play the game. Xuck Favier.

It has to at least appear as if they are seriously considering cancelling the series to partially appease those that will no doubt have a field day writing about what a bad decision it is to continue the series, blah blah.............
I still think it is a good PR idea to require the coaches and staffs to be part of some sort of free summer youth program, hosted by both programs, whether or not they are going to play the game. Not sure if it would be a violation to require the players to "volunteer" for such a thing. Suspending the series for 2 seasons may still be a good idea. It would allow tempers to calm down, and most of the players involved in the game to be out of the picture. In 3 years, the schools could then benefit from the added exposure of the return of the series. Of course then the fight would still be the story in 3 years, so maybe not. Unfortunately, I think some on here want to use the fight as a reason to cancel the series, when really they are just afraid of continuing to lose to X. As much as I hate UC losing to them, I don't want UC to duck Xavier. No more than a 2 year break. |

Think about it this way fans....we talk smack about OSU and UK for ducking us annually and most of us don't have to deal with their fans everyday. What do you think Xavier fans (which most of us work with at least one of them daily) would say if we discontinued the series given our recent record versus them?

I was in my seat for every game but one last year. But if they play X again they can do it without me.

Mind if I ask for clarification and a reason? Do you mean that you would cancel your season tickets? Or that you simply would not show up to that specific game?

I would definitely go to the game again myself, but I would leave my 9 and 8 year old boys at home!

Just that game. I have said it before, X has a lot of punks right now and I don't want most of them to set foot on the UC campus...ever.

Alot of people on their high horse, but Gates is the one who threw the sucker punch, and as much as i will miss him, he was the worst offender and biggest punk in the brawl. I don't remember a bunch of people on here complaining about him playing at the end of the season, or refusing to have their kids attend games bc he was there, etc.. I think the whole "punk" / "boycott the x game" thinking is just an excuse to want to duck them.

The Mbodj curb stomp was far worse than Yancy punching someone who had a handful of his jersey and was coming right at him until the referee knocked Frease off balance. Had the sports shows actually shown a good angle of the replay it would've been obvious that Frease had no good intentions and that Yancy was acting in self defense. In other words Yancy did not throw a sucker punch so I wish people would just drop that line altogether.

Xavier had been provoking Cincy for years. Can Yancy whatever you want but he didnt snap when Frease headbuted him a couple of years ago. The whole team showed restraint last year when Tu went mental and this year it bubbled over.
I dont think it was the proudest moment for UC hoops and I certainly dont condone it but it isnt very hard to understand why it happened. |
