I'm sure some of you are aware of the upcoming deadline to request a space on the Grid Tailgate located on the Campus Green. Our group is debating whether to make the move on campus and try out a nontraditional form of tailgating.
From what I can see the pros of the Grid are: Close to the stadium Lots of fans in one designated area Reserved space for every game The cons: Unloading and loading zones: We have a TV set up we are building and getting to the tailgate could be a cumbersome task. Is the plot space enough size? Or do we need two? Earliest we can get there is 4 hours before game time (depending on the game time we tend to arrive pretty early) No grilling while tent is upright. The no grilling while a tent is upright on the plot is maybe the biggest issue I see us having. Do they actually enforce this rule or do they let it slide for the most part? Also, how strict are they about the arrival and departure time. The departure time isn't as big of an issue. The arrival is where we would run into trouble if they do have an issue about getting there earlier than 4 hours before kick off. I think the Grid might be the way to go. With the way Clifton parking lots keep getting eaten up for development I'm not sure how much longer there will be viable parking options for a decent number of cars in one lot. Any opinions regarding the Grid (positive or negative) will be greatly appreciated. |

That grilling rule is indeed stupid. If you have a 4ft section of plot not covered in a tent and/or vents in the tent, you're likely not killing anybody.

I am sure the rule is to keep idiots from lighting a fire until the canope of the tent. My guess is that there would be no issue if your grill is not under the tent.
And there are those people out there! |

We were in the Grid last year. Loved it. Dropoff and pickup is not bad at all. I also purchased a parking pass in the garage next to the Grid (University Garage or Jefferson Garage, can't remember the name) We were normally there 4 hours before with no issue. I don't think there was issue witn anyone getting there earlier than 4 hours.
It really can become the spot for tailgaiting. I was amazed at the fact that all the spots sold out last year, however, it never looked completely full. Besides the school lot (which is gone), its the best spot for tailgating. We used the grill and did not have issue. Look forward to seeing everyone there for the sPITT game! |
