Default Deveroes League

The Deveroes Summer league kicks off tomorrow. We know Titus Rubles is in Cincy. No idea if he or others will be in action. Slats (the traditional UC newcomer team) does play tomorrow. Anyone have any more info on the league or possible UC participation?

If you hate summer basketball or don't think there's anything to be learned from it, go pound sand. Let other people enjoy life. Stop being such a wet blanket and please don't waste everyone's time Ralph'ing this thread to death. Some of us enjoy basketball of all levels and styles of play, and some of us enjoy seeing the effort level, physical development, and developing games of UC and other local players.

Was just checking back in to post the link. Good looking out. Also I believe they are using the NBA three point distance this year which will either mean a ton of garbage shots or more of a midrange game. Should be interesting.

For Saturday

12PM: SLATS
Justin Jackson, Anthony McBride, Titus Rubles, Cashmere Wright

3PM: Raeshon
Kelvin Gaines, Shaquille Thomas

4PM: Superior
Jeremiah Davis III, Jermaine Sanders

Especially early in the season don't expect them all to play

I doubt Cash plays at all.

Yancy and Biggie are playing for SLATS today.

Rubles, Gates, Biggie & McBride all played for Slats today. Yancy had 28, Rubles (pronounced RU-bless) had 8 on 3-for-5 shooting, all from inside the arc. Biggie blocked a couple shots and scored a few points. Slats won, 69-65, after nearly blowing a 19-point lead to a quicker, but smaller team.

Rubles is about 6'7", very athletic and has a very quick first step. His first inclination is to go to the rack. In some sense, he reminds me of Ruben Patterson, but doesn't have as quick a shooting release. It's kind of a long stroke from over his shoulder. Rubles also turned the ball over five times, but that comes with the style of play in the DSL.

Yancy put in 17pts and 9 rbs ( 6 of 7 fts) in a blowout loss. Rubles was 1-7 ( 2pts, 2 rbs) from the field and Biggie had 14 pts 7 rbs. Please post some footage if anyone was there and has any.

Looks like Sanders and Davis both had great games in a loss today. Anyone there to report on how they looked?

SLATS played in the 3rd game tonight at Woodward, versus Mansoor Law Office, which has Shaq Thomas and DSL ageless wonder Paul McMillian (Loyola-IL, probably around 1865 or so). The 1st game was a snooze fest involving the nucleus of NKU's squad and the 2nd was forfeited, so Alex Eppensteiner's team scrimmaged against some of the players from Game 1.

Justin Jackson and Cashmere Wright both played, along with Titus Rubles. All 3 played well, Jackson in particular: 26 pts, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, 5 blocks (and at least 2 other blocks that were nullified by questionable foul calls). Of his 26 points, 12 came from beyond the NBA arc, which is used in the DSL, on 4 straight hits in the 2nd half.

Wright spent the 1st 8 or 9 minutes in front of the bench stretching. He was wearing sleeve wraps on both knees. Once he came in, SLATS took over, eventually pulling away in the 2nd half for a 93-82 win. Wright scored 16.

Rubles played most of the 1st half and about 8 minutes of the 2nd, scoring 12, with 6 boards. He's not the best outside shooter, at least from the arc they employ there. Rubles can shoot, though, from mid-range. He was 6-for-7 inside the arc.

Shaq is ... well ... about as slender as a D1 player can get. He's a legitimate 6'7" and can't weigh 200#. Thomas constantly had to hike up his shorts over his pencil-thin waist. Jamaal Walker, the former XU guard who does an often-annoying play-by-play, did have one good line about Shaq: "He's been hitting the weights. He's up to 101# now." Thomas had 16 points, but only 1 rebound in 19 minutes.
