Default OSU Spring Game in Cincy

Dang this hisses me off. Why not play it in Detroit...same difference. I guess the city (and mostly Mike Brown) get some money, but I say stay the **** out of our neighborhood. I loathe that university up north more and more each day.

Soooooo...they can come down for a practice game, but not a real game vs. our Bearcats? What a bunch of chickensheets! Now if UB decides to schedule us home and home (at PBS) down the road then I'll gladly eat my words.

Why is this happening, and does Florida hold spring games in Miami?

The horseshoe is undergoing renovations and they need a place to have their spring game for a year.

No big deal.

Yea, I didn't know what this was about until I found this article:
Quote:
An Ohio State spokesman confirmed today that the Buckeyes are in primary discussions to play the 2013 spring football game in Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati while some renovation work to Ohio Stadium ensues.
http://www.buckeyextra.com/content/s...incinnati.html

It's not a done deal yet, but if they give the Bengals enough money, I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen.

It's so sad that people in Cincinnati are upset about this.

This will do wonders for the city. Why not let all the people from Columbus/Cleveland/rural Ohio come in to Cincinnati, book up surrounding hotels for a night, and pack the Banks and downtown's restaurants and bars for a weekend?

In reality, this does not affect UC at all. Period. If anything, this will hurt OSU's recruiting a bit because the Spring Game is a chance to bring dozens of recruits to campus.

Can someone please explain the beef with this idea to me?

I didn't know that UC bought the rights to everything in Cincinnati.

It's one year...it does no harm to UC...It doesn't give OSU a recruiting advantage in Cincinnati; In fact it may hurt as the Spring game is usually a great opportuniity for coaches to bring recruits onto campus...It brings dollars into the city coffers.

All good.

Screw it. I'll be down there rocking my UC bUCkeye State shirt. If they wanted an NFL stadium they should've traveled north to Cleveland though.

There are no nfl stadiums in Ohio. Need to go to Pittsburgh.

With all of the Columbus people down here, that may be a good time to take a visit up there. I know they used to have a Zoo, but I think it may have closed; I heard somewhere that the duck died.

Hamilton County has another $25 million shortfall this year (300 people may lose their jobs), and Mike Brown won't suffer any from that, as his lease (written by his stooge Bob Bengalhaus) allows him to keep all the $$ from O$U's venture here.

So, in other words, me (and the rest of Hamilton County residents) are subsitizing O$U football. Not happy.

Now is the time for Hamilton, Clermont, Warren, Butler, Kenton, Boone, and Campbell Counties to secede from their states and form the State of Cincinnati.

I'm not joking.

How long are we going to continue to send our tax dollars out of our region to Columbus and Frankfort? Those cities have nothing to do with Cincinnati and take every opportunity they can to bring us down.

I once asked ten people at a bar whether Cincinnati should be in Ohio, without giving my personal opinion, and nine said no. Hardly a scientific poll by any means, but overwhelmingly no.

Now to bring the conversation back to football, Pennsylvania aside, there is no other state where the two largest schools (BCS conference or otherwise - Colorado, for example) do not play each other. It is as deliberate in Ohio as it is in Pennsylvania.

the reaction to this has been hilarious. It is a smart move by OSU to possibly build more of a fan base while their stadium is being renovated and has zero effect on UC and pumps more money into the local economy.

Imagine if the number of alleged UC fans complaining about this would actually go to a UC game...

You are post #18 2Kirk, so I don't understand your post..... The point is this, Cincinnati is UC turf. Imagine if UC wanted to use the "horseshoe" for their spring game? Not in a million years! OSU laughs at UC, and the only thing they like about Cincinnati is the fact that they get a few good recruits each year.

B.C.
P.S. I wonder if this was KC's idea?

But OSU isn't using Nippert... PBS is not UC's stadium. It's not on UC's campus. I think this is being overblown. The city of Cincinnati does not yet 'belong' to UC, unfortunately... otherwise there wouldn't be an attendance problem at games. I agree with the posts that say not to complain about OSU and just worry about UC.

If it involves O$U, I will find something to be unhappy about! But put this in perspective..... O$U will not play us here. They only play Ohio teams at the Horseshoe, where they know they will win. They are arrogant, and self-serving. As a taxpayer and UC Alum, I'd prefer they "kept an adequate distance" from Cincinnati, unless it is here to play us w/ neutral refs.

last i checked PBS is the Bengals stadium, not UCs. There is no such thing as "turf" when it comes to college football. If that were the case UC could only recruit in Cincy and OSU could only recruit in Columbus

How quickly people forget that the first stop on the UC football caravan a year or two ago was in Columbus...

I never realized there was anything wrong with competition...

Wrong.... PBS is owned by the taxpayers of Hamilton County. Mike Brown is the leasee. UC thus has much more "ownership" to the stadium, via all the $$ its employees and students pay in sales tax, than people in Columbus; who contribute zero, nata, nothing!

Agreed, but if that is the argument it would have more weight of the Suckeyes were getting to use the stadium for nothing. To me this is more a business deal cause you know old Mike B. is going to get PAID in this transaction.
