Default Kudos to Coach Cronin

I was looking through some old notes and came across the indicators I set for Coach Cronin when he was hired:

Cronin Indicators
Regular Season Indicator 1 - top 12 of the BE by year 3
(this indicator was based on making the BE tourney which has now become moot given the change in effect next year.)

Regular Season Indicator 2 - top 8 of the BE by year 4 / every year
Regular Season Indicator 3 - BE championship by year 10
Post Season Indicator 1 - back in the NCAA tourney by year 5
Post Season Indicator 2 - in the NCAA 4 out of every 5 years
Post Season Indicator 3 - out of the first weekend of NCAA 2x/10 years

He is well on his way to not only meeting them, but exceeding them. Winning the BE championship will be hard, but it is clear we will regularly compete for it. Can you imagine what are program will be like when Cronin is the Dean of the BE? (Can the BE last for another 10 years?)

There were times when I was highly skeptical/critical (there will be times in the future when I'm highly critical . . .). Still, credit given where credit is deserved.

And to those Bearcat Forum members who knew from the beginning and never wavered - kudos to you too!

If I hadn't played for his dad in high school I might've shared a lot of people's opinions but based on his dad's work ethic, general knowledge of the game and scouting expertise; as well as Mick's learning experience under both Huggins and Pitino plus his hometown pride I never doubted him for a minute. It wasn't easy at times and the pains along the way sucked but I think Bearcat Nation is finally united under this coach. For those that still don't like him they can move to Morgantown.

Well thank you DF. You know I was one that stuck to my belief that he will do well. I also still believe he will win a NC before he calls it quits.

Vocally, I supported him. But deep down in years 2, 3, and 4 in a half empty gym I would wonder. It wasn't until after the brawl after I realized he could be fired (from the horse's mouth) did I realize I really wanted him coaching this team.

I can honestly say there is no other person I want coaching the UC bearcats. He's loyal, clean, talented and dedicated. There is no other litmus for me. Is he the best in the country? Probably not. Is he the best for Cincy? You betcha.

Yeah I could tell early on that he knew what needed to be done to win basketball games, he just needed A) His players to understand those things and B) Better players

Check out my article from Dec of 2007 - kind of eerie with some of the foreshadowing in there

I'll be honest, I was finally starting to think MC's players didn't have the full respect for him up until the brawl. After MC's post game interview everything changed for the better.

Coach Cronin will turn out to be one of the best hires in UC history. And after the brawl I was even more convinced of him, if that was even possible.

This smells like a Ralphy statement.

Where on that list is leading the charge to mess up the shoot out? Nice work coach.

Don't see how you can pin that on Mick. If anything the Shootout change was a complete overreaction by the presidents and AD's and stunk of a PR move.

Read cronins quote at the end. He is all for this move, lead it in UCs side.

Cronin wants the game to end which is a stance I agree with. The fact that it will still be played proves my original point that the Presidents and AD's made the decision to go neutral.

Just an FYI. Received my UCATS basketball season ticket package. The XU game is not part of the season tickets. Will cost extra to attend. Information flyer said prices will range from $75 to $25 per ticket.

In that one press conference, Mick managed to command the respect of the fans, his players and the administration.

Think about that for a minute...

Has Mick ever explained why he wants the shootout to end so badly? It's the one thing I've really disagreed with him on since he's been here.

Sure, lets end one of the most historic rivalries in college basketball and one of the most historic and motivational for the entire City of Cincinnati. That makes perfect sense! NOT!!

Probably because UC has more to lose than XU by continuing to play the rivalry. Think about what we've witnessed over the years - XU's players get all geared up for what is often the biggest game of the year for them, they focus like a laser on the Bearcats, their fans get unruly and irreverent, their players often assail the Bearcats and then UC must run the gauntlet that is the Big East afterward while XU can limp through the A10 and in the event the Mousekateers drop a conference game or two the XU game can end up looking like a bad loss.

Now I'm not condoning canceling the series but I surely can understand why a coach whose job security is measured very objectively by wins and losses and post-season success would want to terminate the rivalry.

Isn't this the same reason Ohio State won't play us? You can't have it both ways.
