Default So much for a "Downward Spiral"

Nice hack job by the News Record.

That's all I have to say.

There is a reason why many students including myself sometimes referred to the News Record as the News Wretched. When Tony Yates was fired, this bastion of journalism actually had the gall to print a column stating that Yates firing was due to race.

It has always amazed me that UC doesn't have a Journalism program. In a city Cincinnati's size and having had 2 mainstream newspapers it's always surprised me.

On that note, those who write for the News Record are doing it for a hobby or for their Writing Certificate (a minor that is as close as UC comes to Journalism). I'm not making excuses because it is terrible, just stating the facts. A journalism program could fix this.

The title doesn't exactly match the article, but either way it's totally untimely. It MAY have been better suited two years ago. Oh well, it's a college kid writing it and we don't boo college kids...right?

UC is upward bound, no doubt.

Given the current state of journalism and the increasingly diluted readership, baiting and evoking strong emotions are par for the course. While not really well written, the article did get a number of folks to read it. That's more than can be said for 95% of that rag. I'm not really expecting a student to really bring any more depth to an exhausted topic, so even though I couldn't stand the general tone of the article, or a really a lack of a coherent point, I guess I'll say 'kudos" for actually getting me to read the thing.

The article pissed me off. I thought it was unforgivable, after the way these kids have stepped up this year, for a UC student to write a piece of crap like that. Ignorance posing as sophistication.

Mostly a trashy article. I liked that the Z was finally quoted on the change in 2005 versus 2004. I may disagree but it's way better than No Comment.

But there was a rift between former head coach Bob Huggins and Dr. Nancy Zimpher, the president of UC, and the Board of Trustees.

The arguments eventually ended in the forced resignation of Huggins in August 2005.

Reflecting back on the situation would Zimpher change anything?

"[I would] probably close the window for the ultimate decision," Zimpher said. "I lingered in hopes that the decision would resolve itself, probably longer than I should have. I have a lot of Monday morning quarterbacks, who say 'You should have done this in '04.' Yeah, right. There are no second chances in life, right? So it isn't a perfect world. The thing that has sustained me is that the decision was the right decision."

I stand corrected. How long has this major been there. When my wife and I were there in the late '90, her only option was the writing cert. She didn't go to UC for Journalism but probably would have changed majors if it was available to her. Good luck with your writing...and try to improve the writing in "The News Record" for us.
