Default UC Among Final 4 For Willie Warren

(Per Rivals as clipped from KC Star newspaper)

College buzz: KU is on Warren’s list

Point guard Willie Warren, the No. 12 player in the Class of 2008, has trimmed his list to Oklahoma, Kansas, Connecticut and Cincinnati, according to Rivals.com. Oklahoma is believed to be the favorite.

Warren, a native of Fort Worth, Texas, transferred to Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., this summer. He is planning to visit KU sometime in October

If this is true, then it would seem to me that we have more than a "slim" chance of landing Warren. If he comes and visits, you never know what could happen. Does the article give a timetable as to when he plans on making a decision?

Time to pray to the basketball gods. What a great 2008 class it would shape up to be. Hopefully Mick can at least get him on campus. It seems like Willie has a new favorite everyday, so I don't put much stock in Oklahoma being his favorite. He needs to come on a visit and at the same time have Cash and Gates show up to do some convincing.

"Though Texas guard Willie Warren admitted that Oklahoma was the favorite in the race to sign him, the high-scoring 6-foot-4 player also said Louisville is making a huge late push and will be a factor."

This is interesting to note that in July this was posted about Willie. Now Louisville isn't even in the final four after a HUGE late push!

Here's a prior post of mine about Mr. Warren. I do hope he comes here, but I'm not going to lose any sleep until such time as he signs on the dotted line. We'll see.
He has already committed to 3 other schools. Why not us. LOL

His mom heard that he committed to Baylor from a media guy, when she heard that she said.."My son talks too much, and I'm taking his cell phone".

I thought KY was in the mix as well?

UK has 3 scholarships - 2 are committed to G and F. They need C with 3rd scholarship.

I'll stick with "slim" (10% or less) chance unless/until he makes a campus visit.

But it's better to be in his Final 4 than not.

As to the Yancy Gates comment, I've seen Yancy play and he's good, but he's got a looooooooooooooooooooong way to go to be an All-American. He's a bit heavy, slow, and doesn't run the floor. Mick will fix a lot of that, but he needs a lot of discipline.

Oh it would be a longshot for Yancy I think he is far too criticized for his play. I saw he 3 or 4 times and each time everybody around me was watching him every second and jumping on him we he didnt do one thing right. These people were just waiting for something and then saying he isnt that good whenever they could. Although he does need some help I agree, physically he is there and has been there which is nice.

I could be wrong, but I think he was directing that comment in the direction of HS McDonald's All-American, not necessarily AP All-American @ UC. And I agree both with the fact that he should be a McDonald's AA, and he has a looooooooong way to go before he is a AP AA.

Speaking of recruiting. What is the deal with Chris Singleton?? I saw he is listed as high interest on scout. Anybody know his story?

I think UC is out for Singleton. ESPN doesn't list Cincinnati at all and Rivals has him with low interest. Georgetown seems to be the leader in the clubhouse with a host of ACC teams behind them.

I haven't heard anything about any JUCO players. I have heard about mythical European players who are 7'0" - although, my guess is that these guys would try to go to the NBA if they have a skill set.

I think that getting a PF could be just as good as a C. Someone who could be a servicable backup for McClain and Gates. I wish that UC could have gotten in on Madsen who transfered to OSU last year to be a bench player there, but that is too late. I think the best bet could be to hold the scholorship until 2009 instead of reaching for a player in 2008.

There are no Big East level JC centers out there right now. October is a big month for junior college "Showcases" and if any are out there, they will be found in October. Its hard to hide a big man though, so I dont think any will appear.

Then again, both Jason Bennett and Abdul Herrera are at JC's right now . . . .

Do you think Herrera will end up at KSU? It seems like he was more attched to Martin then he was UC.

Bennett is a tall drink of water at 7'2". Was he asked to leave KSU or did he do so on his own?
