Default The excitement is everywhere.

As I walked up Corry Avenue on the University of Cincinnati on Tuesday night, a scene unfolded in front of me which made me do a double-take. Rows of tents, air mattresses, and lawn chairs were set up on Varsity Village next to Sheakley Lawn. So strange was the event that Local 12 sent a news team this afternoon to document the event.

The explanation, clearly is threefold.

Firstly, the NCAA decided to start basketball season early this year. Secondly, the Crosstown Shootout is to be next Wednesday, the first game of the season. Thirdly, the Bearcat basketball team obviously did incredibly well last year to gain so much fan attention. If neither of those are true, the prophecies laid out in the Book of Revelations are coming true before our very eyes.

Since none of these occurrences are possible, the only explanation left, however improbable, must be the solution. These students were camping out for Bearcats football tickets. Let me repeat that. They camped out for football tickets.

The sudden and remarkable rise in fan interest is an even bigger testimony to the success of Brian Kelly than his team's 5-0 record, or their absolutely sick offensive numbers, or a defense so good that, had the Rebel Alliance had it, they undoubtedly would have won the Battle of Hoth. Never before has college football in Cincinnati been the source of so much excitement, so much media attention, or so much cash flow. Gone are the days when the officials at Nippert hardly even asked for a student's school ID. Buried in the past are the occasions when, on gamedays, security officials set up bike racks three feet from each other, hoping against hope fans actually did sneak in. Now, even if you did manage to sneak into the impenetrable fortress of the Nip, where would you go?

And so, with the excitement of Bearcat football looming, the few Cincinnatians and UC alums that have been avid fans for (painful) years are left thinking to themselves, "What the **** happened?"

Their very next thought? "Who cares? This is great!"

Those of us who've been there all along have a perpetual grin on our faces. It's very hard to get your head around.
