BA1, how badly do you think our recruiting will be set back IF Mick doesn't pull it together this year and gets canned? Obviously it wont be as good, but will it be as bad as when Mick was hired?

That's a good question. I don't claim to be the authority or have inside knowledge (i.e. an assistant coach or someone in the program) feeding my tidbits, but I do follow this stuff closely.

There is stuff that I don't bother to post on the forum because there are only minor blurbs (i.e. recruits reactions to visits at other schools, our coaches were spotted at a game in NY, Vegas, Atlanta, etc.).

If Mick is not retained for 2010, Gaines and Jackson will probably bolt, assuming we let them out of the LOIs. Gaines had offers from Oklahoma, Connecticut, Miami Florida, and many other big players. Would you rather play for Calhoun at Uconn (a guy that recruited you) or a coach that didn't recruit you? I'd say both would likely be gone. Jackson would go to Missouri if they still had 'ship open.

The class of 2011 is the big kicker. Depending on who was brought in (if it someone like Frank Martin at Kansas St or Drew at Baylor) our 2011 class would be on solid ground, albeit we would need 5-6 players in that class. The 2011 class could be Mick's best class yet. We're in with some very, very good players and are getting serious looks.

It is widely speculated that we're one of four left for Teague (UK, UL, UC, IU).

Jeremiah Davis has been on campus many times. He played the Take 5ive here and has taken unofficial visits (he stood behind in line at will call for the Uconn game), but I think we trail IU and UK (if they go after him) in that race.

Amir Williams is another kid that has taken a few unofficial visits to UC.

Jakarr Sampson, Chane Behanan, just to name a few that are very high on us.

I think much of our success this year will effect 2011, but we don't have a shot at ANY of these kids if MC is not here (unless you bring in someone that has a previous connection to them). However, many of the 2011 kids are going to wait until after this summer and into their senior seasons before making a decision.

We're also making headway with the 2012 class, offering and receiving visits from a few consensus top 100 players (Holloway, Burgett, etc.).

If Mick doesn't last and we hire a young guy from a mid-major, we're going to suffer in recruiting for at least 1-2 years. Consider that we might not win right away with a new coach and we're looking at a repeat of the previous 3 1/2 seasons guaranteed.

I care more about the program than any coach. I hate how our program is in limbo right now, but all of us should prepare for even colder times if MC is let go, at least for the subsequent 2-3 years.

That's my opinion.

BA1 I agree with you 100%. Mick not being successful is the worst thing for this program. While you can't continue down the path we are on for much longer, every U.C. fan should root for Mick Cronin to succeed. Like him or not it is the best thing for the program.

West Virginia has their eyes on a 2010 prospect, former Louisville-verbal commitment Josh Langford, who plays for Lee High in Huntsville (AL). Huggins Hopes to Roll into Alabama (Charleston Gazette) and snag a top spring recruit, but the competition is stiff as the 6-foot-6, 210-pound wing man has interest or offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgetown, Georgia, Illinois, Clemson, Marquette and UNLV.

“Huggins and [Marquette coach] Buzz Williams were here the other night,” Lee coacg Greg Brown told the Gazette. “Buzz wants [Langford] bad too. Georgetown is coming [tonight].”

Brown, however, also said Huggins was taken by another Lee High General: Langford’s cousin, Devin, a 6-foot-6, 180-pound shooting guard in the 2011 class.

The Lee High coach said Marquette’s Williams has already offered both Langfords. It’s been reported other schools like Alabama, Maryland, Wake Forest and Georgia have also already offered Devin Langford.

The more I read on the internet, the more I think Devin Langford might be a pipe dream.

He has received offers from many ACC schools and everyone is hounding this kid.

He would be a phenominal get, but I'm unsure if we discovered him early enough.

From everything I have read, this kid would get serious playing time as a freshman.

Saw both Devin and Josh Langford at the King of the Bluegrass in December. Both are outstanding players, but wayyyy over-hyped. They play for a horrible Huntsville team so a lot of their points come from many shots. Both seem to be selfish as well.

For comparison...I'd take 6'8 Elijah Pittman (Covington Holmes), 6'5 Ricardo Johnson (Covington Holmes), 6'5 Josh Sewell (Louisville Trinity), and 6'4 Chad Jackson (Scott County) over Josh in the c/o 2010.

In the c/o 2011, George Fant and Chane Behanan are both better than the younger Devin Langford.

Both of the Langfords lack discipline big time on the court.

Care to provide an evaluation of Pittman's game? I now he is ranked around #250 overall in the country, but I have not seen much on his recruitment. Any info?

Offensively, he has the ability to play inside or outside. When playing down low, he has dominated this year because of his size, length, and athleticism. At 6'8, he has a 7' wingspan. What makes him tough to defend though is his ability to take you off the dribble and knock down a mid range jumper or hit an outside shot. I'd compare him to Justin Doellman of Xavier, from a few years ago, only with more athleticism and hops.

Defensively he is a shot blocking presence and not too many people are going to go up over him for a rebound. Kid doesn't play above the rim...he plays above the SQUARE. No exaggeration. Think James White. He is very aggressive in the paint and contests EVERYTHING near him. Opposing big men have struggled against Pittman all year. He held Dejuan Marrero and Jarnell Stokes (#3 soph in the country) to single digit points and rebounds, while also putting up a double double.

Only thing holding him back is his academics. Test scores will keep him from going big D1 and getting through clearinghouse. He'll likely settle for a JUCO for a year or two and then be at a big time program. Think Darnell Dodson's (UK) situation academically out of high school and Pittman is in the same boat.

Thank you very much for this insight. I know we had contacted Pittman early in his high school career, but had not heard much of late.

Saturday, Langford provided the inside presence Lee-Huntsville needed as it completed its march to a Class 5A boys basketball championship by beating Carver-Montgomery 62-48.
It is Lee's first basketball title since winning the 4A title in 1968.
Generals coach Greg Brown said he had seen the role that Carver's Craig Sword had in the Wolverines' semifinal victory. He was determined he wouldn't be as prominent in the final.
Carver coach James Jackson said his squad normally tries to get Sword, a sophomore, going early.
"They did a wonderful job of denying him the ball, kind of shading to his side," Jackson said. "After he got in there and we couldn't get him going, we went away (from him) a little bit. That wasn't intentional; it was because of the defense that was played on him."
Sword, who had 18 points in 20 minutes while beating Wenonah, was scoreless at halftime. Meanwhile, the Langford brothers combined for 20 points with Devin scoring 11 and Josh nine.
Carver was up 13 at the break, courtesy of a 10-5 spurt to open the second quarter. When Josh Langford got in foul trouble in the third, the Generals employed a ball-control offense, mostly playing keep away.
The Carver cause was also hurt at the foul line, where the Wolverines missed 23 of 33.
"If we could have hit our free throws it would have been a lot closer," Cornelius Ferguson said. "We probably could have won the game."
The fourth-ranked Generals won thanks to its bench, which outscored the No. 5 Wolverines 18-7, and by picking up double the second-chance points, 20-10.
Tourney MVP Josh Langford netted 15 points and 10 rebounds for Lee (25-10) and his brother Devin followed with 13 points. Carver (23-8) got 17 from Roquez Johnson and 14 from Ferguson.

12/16/09:

According to ESPN.com's Maryland affiliate www.InsideMDSports.com, Terrapins assistant coach Keith Booth is expected to head to Louisville this weekend to watch Class of 2011 wing forward Devin Langford.

Langford and his Lee High squad will be participating in the King of the Bluegrass tournament.

Lee haed coach Greg Brown says the Terps, despite offering a scholarship, are in Langford's top five along with Alabama, Cincinnati, Marquette and Illinois.
