I read today that he is no longer with the team? Does anyone have any insights as to why? I thought he looked very promising for a young guy at MLB, and was the projected starter there.

He was dismissed from the team by the staff.

The only place it was publicly reported he is no longer with the team is in Dehner's article on the linebackers on gobearcats.com.

I remember hearing about him being dismissed, but don't remember the reason. I do remember that it was quite a while ago. At least a month or two.

So, a starting linebacker, who transferred to UC from Tennessee has left? Please, somebody give me some good news on the D for this year!

There isn't much good news. The first string is pretty good, but after that it doesn't look too good as there is very little experience. The good thing is that just about the whole 2 deep is coming back next year and will be an experienced unit by then. 2011 season could be a very special one.

Davis transfered from Tennessee, but he just wasn't very good. He frequently looked lost last year in Diaco's very vanilla scheme. This year, moving to a more pressure based scheme which asks linebackers to play well in man to man situations promised to be a disaster. By the end last year it seemed like Davis was struggling to align and defend routes properly just dropping into a hook curl zone. The prospect of playing him in a more complex defensive structure wasn't a good one and not having him this year won't be that big a deal. JK can slide inside and play the mike if need be, in fact thats what I think will wind up happening because while there isn't a ton of LB depth in general, there is more outside than in. My stab at the opening day lineup would be Armstrong Will Schaffer Mike Stewart Sam. When Walt drops down to the Elephant position it will probably be Bomar Will Schaffer Mike Armstrong Sam.
